I moved to Colorado shortly after, where I graduated in 2012 with my Bachelor of Science with an emphasis in Meteorology from the University of Northern Colorado. My passion and focus is on Microscale Meteorology and Severe Weather.

Hot with scattered hit or miss evening storms.

Let’s dive into your forecast, because, surprise! Things are kinda spicy in the atmosphere.
First up: temperatures.
They’ll be monotonously hot, but honestly, it could be much worse for this time of year. Expect widespread 90s on the valley floors, and we may flirt with 100°F in the lower Treasure Valley Tuesday and Wednesday. Thankfully, temps will ease a bit heading into next weekend, trending back toward the low 90s. Long Valley and the mountains will be more tolerable with 70s and 80s.
Now for the drama
We’re settling into a daily pattern of scattered, hit-or-miss showers and thunderstorms each afternoon and evening, starting around 3 PM. Storms will first bubble up over the elevated terrain near the Nevada border, the Boise Mountains, and into the Salmon-Challis National Forest, then slowly drift northward.
These storms will behave erratically, driven by outflow boundaries, so don’t be surprised if:
• Gusty winds hit out of nowhere
• Lightning appears without warning
• Visibility drops due to blowing dust
This will mostly occur between 4 PM and 10 PM, but isolated lightning could linger through the night. Rainfall will be very localized, some of you may get a quick downpour, but most of you will stay dry under high-base clouds.

This pattern will repeat daily until further notice, so keep checking in with me each morning, and I’ll nowcast throughout the day to help you dodge surprises.
