how does one do a fade with rattle cans?

I sort of always saw an airbrush as an artsy fartsy sort of thing. I am not so skilled like that but but when it breaks, I can have it back running in 10!
I never saw the costs of paint as resonable incentive.
With practice and better equipment I'm likely to get better results...

Time for research!

Airbrush can be a full scale paint sprayer for more objects. And think of it as the paint is cheaper than can. That can be used to buy more bodies.

3 decades ago I remember Badger being THE brand.
How much work is it to maintain airbrushes and is there a reason to have more than 1 brush?
Like are nozzels easy to change for wide cover vs detail or is that an adjustment?
Would multi color jobs be easier/faster with 2 brushes or is it just twice the work?

Maybe we can discuss this in a thread that doesn't specifically mention "rattle can"?

You can get by with one, and just swap the tips out if going from spraying a whole body to fine detail work. But two brushes would be better.

For cleanup between colors, I just pour some thinner in, scrub with a cheap paint brush, and spray a bit through the nozzle and dump it into a paper towel. I repeat once or twice until it sprays clear.

When done for the time being, I pull the needle and tip guard off and wash everything in the sink. Every once in awhile I pull the tip out and give it a thorough cleaning too with a tip cleaner. Then I reassemble and spray a few drops of thinner through it and put it away.

I don't think it takes much to maintain them. Just make sure you clean it before putting it up.

As WF said, you can get by with one, but I like to have 2. I have a .5mm brush and a .2mm brush. I use the .5mm brush for covering larger areas and the .2mm for more detailed work.

Holy shiit, it worked… I was tagged, and got a damned notification saying so..

I do use the Iwata Revolution CR, and LOVE IT. -so much so that after I found that this airbrushing thing may just be for me (thankfully ), and I’ve been enjoying it so much that I’d get a bit more involved; I picked up an Iwata Eclipse as well. Absolutely tremendous. Its gonna be a fully tough to go wrong with either of those airbrushes IMO..

Cool! I didn't mean to derail the intent of your post! I'm glad you're thinking the same!
I feel like I stayed brushed where I should have gone brushless and now brushed where I used to be canned!
I'm SLOWLY dialing it in!

You know I’m just as new as you so for what it’s worth…

I think you plan on being in the hobby for a minute, it’s definitely worth the investment. After a few rattle can bodies I did I realized in the long run the ab will be cheaper.

I'm already liek 120 in cans down the drain and only painted 3 bodies lol, thats a really REALLY good point i hadnt thought about

The one thing an airbrush isn't good at that rattle cans are superior at is.........you guessed it, graffiti, it's a bugger to take your compressor out tagging.

Yeah you will definitely save there, and your color choices won’t be limited, you can mix whatever you want

It's a horrible pic, but I shot the blue first, with the window masks in-place and left a fairly thin coat on the trailing edge, then peeled the masks and shot the black (I like the tinted window look). This one was my first serious car (Kyosho SuperTen GP, originally purchased & painted in 1997). Sorry I don't have any better pics, but it was a long time ago, and the body took a lot of damage early on (I wish I would've bought a spare, considering how rare and expensive they are now).

I always like to do some kind of a two-tone front-to-back color change on my road cars. It makes it a LOT easier to tell if it's coming at me or going away... just kind of a 'no-brainer' thing.
