I wanted to try airbrushing but have always shy'ed away from it due to the costs, I could go buy all the kit today and then be terrible at it 😂 😂 I waste enough money on RC's in general without getting in to airbrushing (although I'd love to start)
I felt the same way but with the price of rattle cans, 3 or 4 bodies and you'll recover your investment. It does take some practice but if I can learn it, anybody can.

It's pretty easy to achieve rattle can level of results with an airbrush! There is no requirement to paint detailed bodies with a fine level of detail. I once used my airbrush to paint a little piece of door handle trim for my car!
