Cutting hole in shell to fit lamp, what material can I add to protect lamp?

The topic title was not the easiest to make clear to understand!

Basically, I have a Maverick Quantum RX Flux and I will be cutting out a roughly 28x28mm square in the black section on the front of the shell and fitting one of these lamps.

I will still want the shell water-resistant, and I also want to protect the lamp itself.

What material is usually used to fill in the gaps around the lamp (where it joins the shell) and/or what can I place in front of the lamp to restore the shell a little?

I use e6000 to seal it off. You can reinforce the shell around the holes with drywall mesh and e6000. Adds rigidity and is still flexible.

E6000 is great stuff. Permatex black 81158 RTV adhesive silicone sealant, I use alot on RC stuff. It's more grey than black. Not stringy or gooey. Works well.

Id cut the holes small enough to mount the light using the 4screws. Lens on front of body base on backside. Find a small wire mesh like speaker grill to protect them or a lens cover film
Then seal it with above recommended sealants

If you have nitro fuel, that on a tip or cotton ball should rub factory paint off. No cutting required.
