I just finished building my Traxxas Maxx V2 and was able to run it today for the first time. It has a hobbywing quicrun 8BL150G2 esc paired with a hobbywing quicrun 2000kv motor, geared 28/46, and belted 3.8 sledgehammers. The first battery I ran in it was a 5200mah 4s, it seemed perfect at first but about halfway through that battery I noticed it was cogging real bad. I finished off that battery and popped in a 6s to see if that would fix anything, to my surprise it was still cogging. When I say cogging I mean trigger fully pinned and it takes 3-4 seconds before the rig even moves, it also sounds like during those 3-4 seconds my fans get quieter/slow down. With all this being said the 4s battery I used has seen better days and the 6s battery I used ended up swelling pretty significantly. Should I swap tires, gearing, batteries? Not really sure where to start. ANY help is appreciated!

Yeah, sounds like your batteries are on their death bed.

Start off with new set of quality batteries and see if the issue persists.

I highly recommend China Hobby Line. Affordable and extremely well performing.

I'd probably try adjusting the Punch, and Timing levels to their lowest setting to see if that helps smooth out things.
I went through everything this morning and it’s still cogging. I tried rebinding the remote to the receiver, tried fresh batts, changed the gearing and even swapped tires. I think the esc is just laggy. Guess I’ll be looking into a new esc for it as I can’t tolerate the cog. It won’t even wheelie from a dead stop it starts to roll then finally gets all its power. Not very happy but is what it is.

Do you have a program card? I had the same problem with a different car, and it cleared up after I adjusted the starting power to 25%, and the forward response time to the fastest setting. Also, I found it useful to adjust your brake settings at this point as well.

Only other thing I can think of is bad motor connection (e.g. desoldered connector under the heatshrink) but since it looks new and stock, I doubt it.

It should be able to move that truck even on higher punch settings 🤷

What are your temps looking like? Sounds like it is geared pretty high and usually the first sign of severe over gearing is cogging. You could try dropping a couple teeth on the pinion and see if it improves, that's where I would start personally.

The maxx is pretty heavy (about as heavy as a full on 1/8 scale) and while that motor is technically bigger.... going up 5 teeth on the pinion and dropping 4 teeth on the spur is a pretty big change in terms of gearing.

So, did your new sensored combo solved your issue?
Yes it did! Issues are gone! I also put in a racers edge glitch buster. It will now do standing backflips which it would never do before! Very happy with it! 😃👌
