Inspiration!

Well, I've finally got some inspiration for a body in this thing. Originally I was going to go the industrial route with a steel paneling look because the F-650 is such a strong looking truck body. However, I've decided to do something a little different and just plain fun. This is actually relatively simple, just a couple logos and a plain backdrop. I'm not going to paint the cape either, that would be dumb IMO. I'll be doing a fabric piece. I havn't decided whether to do yellow and black wheels or not though. I don't really want to cover my chrome wheels with anything so I might have to buy another set.. Not sure what I want to do yet though...

I think it'll look cool as hell with the cape flapping around in the wind as the truck flies over a long triple :thumbup:

Finished the tracing this morning. Body is washed and masked too. I even cut the decals (which I normally don't do until I'm finished painting). Time to see about some color :) I still need to get to the store for some fabric though. I think a few pieces of Velcro will be sufficient to mount the cape. Anybody have any other suggestions?

These turned out rather well I think. I think they look pretty nice.

That RB motor looks really good. Are you going to stay with the orange head or going to swap it out for a machined look as well? The roll cage is going to be a great idea with those alluminum fuel lines. One roll over and they are bent up pretty bad

No, I'm not gonna mess with the head any. I'm down with RB orange :) As far as the lines go... I considered wrecks when I bent them. As you can see, the line coming from the filter goes up but it peaks lower than the body mount area. Also, the lines do wiggle a little bit at their connections. As far as the rollcage goes, that's a future endeavor. I'm thinking an exo-cage around the Superman body would look sweet.

I ran out to the craft store this morning and picked up some stuff for the cape. Obviously I got red, also some yellow and white for the Superman logo on the cape itself. I'm not quite sure how that's gonna work out but we'll see. I also got 2 types of Velcro strips. One is iron on (for the fabric), the other is stick on (for the body). The red is your standard "silk-like" fabric so it's got a bit of sheen to it. This is gonna be sweet!

The Superman theme is looking good so far,the velcro idea is the best and that Maxx looks sweet man...I have only 1 concern with routing of the inlet line.....The fuelline seems too close to the head and exhaust pipe without any type of heat wrap type protection and the extreme heat thats gonna come off the manifold is gonna add heat and may start to vaporize the fuel before it hits the cylinder causing the engine to be hard to tune at higher rpms....I had the high RPM lean out condition due to the rubber lines heating up too much on my .32 Axial MGT because of its routing...I had to add a secondary protector aswell as some loosely wrapped foil wrap to stop it and I'm also leaning on the idea of getting an in-line intercooler for the puffer line..keep up the great work,-I can't wait to see the finished product..

We'll just have to see what happens when I start running the thing. The fuel lines on a stock T-Maxx run closer than this and I never had any issues with that back in the day. I was keeping that in mind though when I was routing. I thought I kept it a fair distance away from the head.

I finished all my mask cutting this morning and now I'm working on mixing the colors up. I hate paint mixing. blah! I'm also gonna try and create a pattern for this cape today.

*edit*

Hmm.. straight Blue Streak seems to be pretty close to the proper shade. I think I'll run with it. I'll definitely need to make the Daytona Yellow a bit more pale though for the Superman script and logo. The same with Racing Red. I need to be careful though with the red. I don't want pink here.

Did you consider spreading epoxy on the fabric to hold it?
Fiberglass cloth from a hobby shop would be my choice.

You can turn that template into a zip zap ramp or a trailer when you're done with it. :D
