Here is the progress so far on my crawler course, building it for 1/24th, but the itty bitty Acsent32 and SCX30 are a blast on it too.
Basically put together a frame to fit 4ft X 8Ft 1/4" plywood, want to keep it light as possible for portability. Using a big hunk of mold making foam I've had laying around in my shop for years. As I've cut it up, able to use the all the pieces to build other parts, so hardly any waste. This foam is very dense, but still really lightweight and super strong.
Heavy pics ahead..

Figured I should add a " Pride Rock" for those into Lion King. Cut a slot in both the rock and mountain and installed a 1/4" piece of plywood for unternal support

Thought it needed a balanced rock too. It does have internal supports as well. And for kicks, I ordered up a miniature Wile E Coyote figurine to put on top

Pretty much have all the obstacles complete, and happy with the layout so far. Next step is to coat it with synthetic stucco to keep weight down, and it will be very durable. I will paint details with flat paints with some sand mixed in, add some trees, moss, pebbles, etc. Should be sweet.

I'm on my way! 😍

Lookin' good, the weather is finally getting to where I can work in the garage, I need to start a course too. Been talking about it for a couple of years, and now that Mrs. Dooms health has stabilized, maybe I can start soon. :)

Come on over!
This has been a blast so far. The lines and obstacles are very challenging, the wood ladder bridge thingy (someone needs to come up with a name for it) is almost not possible at the very top, but I can just sneak on top with the Meus MB24 rig, and I was actually able to get it with the Acsent 32, barely, after many attempts. A couple guys have stopped by to play on it and absolutely love it.

Initial paint started 😃 Using a flat elastomeric masonry paint. Went with a tanish red base to match the rocks out here in Western Colorado, I'll add in some flat earthy accent colors with airbrush or rattle cans. Used about 60 lbs of stucco patch over the foam, so all in with paint and build materials, probably going to wiegh around 90 lbs. Not too bad, and still very portable. Hoping to also come in at under $175 for the whole project, but granted I already had the foam and wood.

Still a little work to do, some trees, fake turf, etc, and get Wile E Coyote put on top of balanced rock. Its coming along nicely. I am hosting a wrench day for my Miata club at the shop this Saturday, and will have thus set up with a few of my mini crawlers for the guys to have fun wih. I am sure it will be a hit 😎

The course came out great! Man I'd love to have a shop that size too.
Thanks! Yeah, pretty nice having a big shop, building is 6500 sq ft, the shop area is about 4000. When I have a big cabinet job, I am maxed out though, doors, drawers, and the cab boxes themselves. Everything spread out til I start assembling everything. With the Miata club coming in, I can comfortably hold 5 cars inside ;)
