So am I better off getting a truck with a center dif instead of a slipper clutch? Or should I not worry about that right now?
Both work, really just a matter of preference.

Get the truck you like, changes are always easily done.

So are they both the same amount of maintenance?
Not in my experience... the diff is less attention-hungry, but again if you get a slipper and it becomes a source of annoyance, it's easy to replace (plug & play) on the 1/10 4x4 Traxxas models.

Picked this bad boy up at an auction for $160. A little high maybe, but it's in cherry condition.

The time where it almost rolled on its side, I nearly shat myself. Noooooo! 🤣
Sweet! My FIL has what appears to be the exact same. Never seen dirt, he's weird like that. My wife and I call him the curator. As in he has a museum of all kinds of things he's never used.. had to have it, never used, LOL.
He picked it up at Diggers Dungeon one year when we drove down to the OBX for vacation.

My son's mother found that one at an auction. Like new in the box. I told her I'd go as high as $160 on it. And that was my mistake, because she probably bought it for $30 🤣

But the body alone sells for well over $100 on ebay in this pristine condition. The plan is the body is for display only. I'll grab a beetle body and throw on it for bashing. I don't care if the Stampede chassis gets run over by a car. We can replace all of that. But the body is already a hot item that you cannot find cheap.

My experience with slippers. Depends on size of rig & driving style. Nothing wrong with them. Can burn up. Can last a long time. Attention to adjustment.
And power.. most burn up slippers by putting too much power through them I feel. The Traxxas setup is decent, keep it stock(ish) and it'll hold up fine.

So, my FIL was right to keep it untouched? He has every bag, twist tie, ect it came with I'm sure. Box is a definite. I'm not telling him! LOL
I laughed when he bought it TBH. Who's laughing now..😔😜🍻

It's just a Traxxas Stampede, with an ABS plastic body and stickers on it and monster truck tires. But yeah, it's a bit of a show piece to me because I was always a Grave Digger/Tom Meents fan since the beginning. So combine that with RC - yeah, to me it's worth preserving. At least the one part of it that can't be replaced.

Absolutely. Or adding bigger tires with big knobs.
Yes. One time I threw some 2.8 MT tires on my bandit.. just once, LOL. Besides the propensity to traction roll on turns, the slipper was screaming!!😬🤣
I settled on some Jconcepts chopper sct tires/wheels on it. They hook pretty good on my track. Buggy tires are just too small for the rough surface. It's a handful to get around the track with good pace. Makes for some great throttle control training.

Is adding bigger tires a good thing or a bad thing for the slipper clutch? Just wanna be clear .
Bad thing. Always bad 😆

Any change in your final ratio will impact your motor load and temps. It will also change where your weakest link is in the drivetrain, depending on what part of the drivetrain you alter. So adjustments in one area will require adjustments elsewhere. Sometimes the only way to find that out is when something breaks.

Theoretically, if you slap bigger tires on it, you should also but a bigger slipper on it. Or at least a grippier one. Or tighten it up to match. That will however just transfer that load to your pinion and spur 😉

Me too, love the OG Monster Jam trucks/drivers! Meents (Max D) was an animal!! Guy's straight cyco! Love em!! Jim Koehler (Avenger) was also one of my favs.

Bigfoot is way better than Gravedigger! 🤣
