ok i got a mp777 with the v-spec engine, iam running the Ofna 1/8 Starter Box On/Off Road w/12V Motor, my compression for this engine is so great, that its very hard for my startbox to get it running, i did get it running once, but havent had anymore luck, i can push a screwdriver against the flywheel to turn it, but my starterbox wont turn it, any help to lower this compression!! :argue:

I have been tryimng since christmas.... I am sending mine back to O.S.

really, u are sending it back, there has to something we are doing wrong

why r you sending it back? the engine is supposed to be that way. My novarossi did the same thing. I had to do the screw driver thing as well. All you gotta do is have patience. I finally got mine going good after taking the cooling head off, on 3 times (different starts). AND doing the screw driver thing 4 times aswell. You gotta have time and patience is all..... Once you get it started again and it doesn't start, take off the cooling head, then put it back on after you've cleaned the top of the piston. Then take the plug out and get all the fuel out of you engine by bumping it. Then run it again. It should work.

PiErow send it to me I break it for ya! lol
No but If you want I can break it in for ya Pm me If you want to do some thing about it..

Are you guys pre-heating your engines?
If not try pre-heating the head till it is around 200F then loosen the glow plug and try to start it.

man you reacon the os is hard to start, u should try a 421b nova engine, there worse, it may also be that your starter box is to gutless, is fine on a motor that half worn but isnt up to the rigors of breaking an engine in, os will not let you return because you say it has to much compression LOL

bill61 has a great suggestion and I second it.

Try using a hairdryer to preheat the cooling head. Also, try loosening the glo-plug about a 1/8-1/4 turn.

Another thing to consider is that perhaps your box's motor might not be strong enough. The starter wheel might be too worn to grab the flywheel properly.

Could be a number of things, but I would NOT return the engine. You want the compression as strong as it is, because over time and use it will get slack and then the performance of the engine will suffer.

Just a few extra cents on this one...

Drop some ARO (after run oil) in the carb and a little fuel in the plug hole. Heat the engine block not the cooling head and loosen the glow plug a fraction. Also when bumping on your starter box let the wheel get up to speed before you make contact with the fly wheel. This combination is sure to get you started!!
If the engine starts and dies it'll probably be too rich from the factory, try leaning the LSN a 1/4 when it starts and idles richen it up again for the break in process!

I hooked my box up to a 20 amp power supply and it will fire anything.....batteries can have a slump in the current draw when the load hits it.....the PS just keeps giving it to ya.....now I keep a gelcell so I can still use the box when I got no 110 power available

I odn't understand why you guys are crying about too much compression...they are high quality race engines, they are supposed to be like that!

and Pierow...do you realize how hard you'd get laughed at if you called OS and said "I don't want this much compression in my 300 high end engine"....you want that....just like skymaxx said....that ensures you'll get maxximum life from your mill.....tighter pinch = longer time to expand the sleeve.......I mean I'm sure I can get you an already run in V-spec in great condition for your new one if you'd like....but keep yours and ejoy the fruits of your labor.....break it in already

you can also loosen the glow plug a little and once it fires up and starts running tighten it down...this can all be done with a good ignitor like the hot shot that "snaps"on the glow plug.....

but heating it up helps the most.....and makes it easier to start....my v-spec was locked at TDC when i bought it....i went through the same thing as you guys

just be patient...because when it gets a gallon in it...you are gonna LOVE THIS ENGINE

I PROMISE ITS WORTH THE PATIENCE

srry bill....didn't read your post completely.....you already said that....lol

No problem husky24tn.
Many people recommend pre-heating your engine before you start it the first time each day you run. They say that it will extend your engine life by many gallons. If it extends my engine life by even one gallon I figure that is worth the hassle. I have recently started this practice (even bought a butane heat gun for when I am not near a power outlet).

bill- does it have a naked flame like butane lighters or is it different?

OK - just ordered one off farnell, a flameless heat gun (750degC) will come in handy, always wanted one of these for heatshrinking :)

Preheat, Preheat, Preheat, Preheat, I used a heatgun and I also put a old sock over the head. About 200 deg. is perfect, once I did that it started no problem. I did this for the first quart of fuel. Now it's tight but will start every time. P.S. I used a sock because it was a little chilly out when I broke it in, if it's nice out you don't need it maybe put it on if your using a hair dryer but take it off once it starts.
