Just remember that it is highly reccomended to preheat every time you start your engine for the first time on a given day, for the life of it. I have just started this practice so I can not verify the longevity factor, but many racers say it will extend your engine by many gallons.
 
just exstends the life of your conrod, not so much the engine, conrod takes all the load on a cold start, as long as this is replaced it doesn't make that much dif

Yup...mistyped on my response; however, heat transfer works both ways with the "cooling" head. If you can not get good access to your engine block due to exhaust pipe, fuel tank or other part interference...then dropping heat onto the head will heat up the block...it may just take a little longer.
