Who was wrenching today??? What did you do??

Yeah, know what you mean. An empty bench without an ongoing project is a downer. 'AC'
I don't have anything to wrench on and that's just depressing as hell.:(

I have so many projects going on my bench is never empty.

Sounds like you all need to play more, play harder, break stuff, so you have stuff to work on. 😜

Just got a notification that the cheap 1.9s from Amazon have arrived so I will be putting together the printed beadlock wheels to take them out and test Sunday. Supposed to be rainy but that's ok.

I'd like to be wrenching on this

Today (and yesterday's) project is this

Swapping out drums for calipers.

Put the $20 Hobbypark Tires on the printed beadlock rims, decided not to paint them until I tried them, and went out to play.

I also keep smashing the 3d printed barwork on the front bumper so I designed and printed some 24mm lights to mount on the bumper, currently they are hot glued on and that worked for today. Those are my first print and attempt at assembly and while they need some refinement, I actually really like how they came out. Lens is just plastic cut from the bubble diecast cars come in. When I do more I think I'll do some amber leds and matte clear on the inside of the lenses.

I'm stringing some video together that I'll post up in a bit but the tires did way better than I expected especially with the foams they have. Although the foams may be why they work.

After fighting various 3d printer issues, for the last week or so I have been swapping out parts trying to chase down the root(s) of my problems. I got to the point yesterday I was ready to scrap the whole machine.

I swapped psu's multiple times, blowing them up after short runs. Turns out my bed heater, or the mosfet controlling it went bad. So that led me to installing a silicone heater, which is a huge improvement.

Then a problem that wasn't even a problem caused me to change the main board, and upgrade firmware. This was a blessing in disguise, because the new board and firmware is so much better. The firmware upgrade was something I had been wanting to do for years, but never did follow through with it because I thought I needed to use an Arduino, but it was far simpler on this printer.

Then I fixed a problem with the bowden tube at the hot end that was causing under-extrusion and causing prints to fail. Now I am finally printing good parts again (I hope). Will know in about 12 hours. Fingers crossed.

Just thought I'd share for any of you other 3d printing guys. Sometimes these machines can have you pulling your hair out, even though there isn't really much to them.

It really is a frustrating piece of machinery when it decides to be.

I've been having an extremely intermittent pausing issue where it just stops and can't be restarted. I've gone through all the trouble shooting with the wiring and hardware and can't find anything. It will print fine for days then I will start a print and 2 hours later it has stopped.

I started a print before I went to bed last night and woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. First thing I notice is that 4 hours into a 10 hour print the printer is silent. Turn on the light and it's just sitting there, still hot, doing nothing. I was so irritated I just hit the kill switch and went back to bed.

I would start first by checking the voltages your PSU is outputting, and setting the voltage pots on your main board. There should be a video tutorial on how to do it for your printer somewhere. TH3D has lots of tweaking stuff on their YT channel. Check there first.

Also, you might try formatting your SD card again.

Having a blip in your AC power can cause that as well. Are you plugged into a surge suppressor?

Will do, I am on a surge protector but I have a UPS at work we aren't using I'm going to set up.

I'm printing from PC through USB so not an SD card issue. I did have a problem at one point because when the AC would kick on in the house it would cool the room the printer is in too quickly and my hotend temp would suddenly drop and kick it off but I solved that by doing some duct adjustment. It happens every 20 or 30 prints so really intermittent.

I did have an issue at one point that was entirely self caused. I have the printer on a google home outlet so that I can completely kill it remotely. I had taken it from another place in the house and forgot to change the home and away settings, so it would shut off when I left the house, but of course be on when I came home. It took 5 failed prints for me to figure that one out lol.

Updated the firmware on my 3D printer's mainboard and its LCD screen. That was a most of the day job. Its not a straight forward process to compile python code for a firmware update lol

"Finished up" my 24mm light design and painted a couple up. I'm happy with the look.

The bulbs I have in them currently are really basic 5mm. They are more form over function which normally I don't go for but I needed to fill space on the bumper and really don't do much night running.

Putting them on led to me starting a revision on my front and rear bumper designs involving changing light options.

Printed some tail light lenses for the integrated lights in the rear bumper.

I had also been meaning to revamp my rock lights and just got a bunch of LEDs for a holiday project I'm working on. So some shots of that as well. Need to clean up the wiring tomorrow.

I also love the way the bumpers are weathering. I printed them in a light grey, primed them, and painted them. I'm doing some revisions to the front bumper now so when I print it next time it's going to be in Overture Space Grey PETG. Then prime and paint again. Love that it looks like it's worn doen to bare steel.

@FJC_GUY lookin great. Love all the lights.

Taped off and painted a Proto Form Dodge Dart. Bought it in 2016 or so, started to mask it as an Orlando Police car. Decided on FHP, with the blue lights.
So today was masking and shooting black.

Finally received the exhaust pipe for the Baja so I installed it last night. Took awhile but I had to tweek a few parts to fit.
She is ready to roll.

Glad it finally arrived!
