Sup guys. I'm looking for a truck that i can do hill climbs with. like on rocks, dirt, and maybe alittle mud. maybe gear it down a bunch and get some low end torque. I have a tmaxx (#4910)that needs $220+ in parts just to get running ( its been sitting for a long time). i love the truck. but I'm thinking about just buying one on craigs for that same price that runs and has spare/aftermarket parts. any specific trucks out there you guys recomend? I'm a traxxas guy but thats probly just because of the brand. seems very popular to me. But maybe change my mind and send me in the right direction I'm looking for?!

For hill climbs or rocks, unless you are set on nitro check out axials vehicles. I love my wraith. It is great at almost everything. And can be upgraded easily!!

If you like nitro, and like low end grunt, getting something with a big block is your best bet. Which means a savage.

I have a savage and a revo and I treat my savage like a stump puller for when I'm in a torquey mood, the revo is fun and light with quick handling.

I like them both and it sounds like you'd like something more savage'esk.

yea i want nitro. should have mentioned that. are there different model savages? i dont know jack about them

That 4910 is as good as any truck made. I've had a Savage, I have a Revo, I just got rid of a 3.3 Tmaxx and a XTM Mammoth. I got rid of a HPI MT2 (which just has to be the worst thing I've ever owned), and if I had to only own 1 truck, I'd keep that 4910. I've beat that truck till it can't take any more and I have never broken anything on it. I jump it off ramps, run it into boxes, the curb, the flower bed, everything and it just keeps on going. It doesn't handle as well as the Revo but it only cost 1/3 the price. It's not a tank like the Savage but as I said, I have never had to replace broken parts. I think if you want something else, shop around and see what you might like. Don't by some junk on Craigslist unless you can get it for next to nothing because you can't be sure of the condition. Don't spend $225 on that 4910 because that is 1/2 of the price of a new truck. You can find good deals on Ebay but you have to be real selective on who you buy from. They have to have a bunch of 100% positive feed back as a buyer and seller.

Yes, they have basically 2 different Savages. The Savage X 4.6, which you can get either RTR or in kit form. And then the big boy, the Savage XL, the only real downside to the XL is the fact that some people say the stock engine isn't that good. Either way though, Savages can take a beating.

What's wrong with it? You can probably fix it for way less if you get your parts from the chop shops on ebay.

both steering and throttle servos are junk and needs a motor. it barely ran when i did have it running and parked it. been sitting for a little over 2 years now and didnt use after run oil. so its probly rusted inside. and the driver side steering knuckle is fudged up. not to mention its like 10 years old now.but I'm looking at ads on craigs and there is a couple savages on there for cheap. my go take a look at a couple.
AND MERRY XMASS EVERYONE!

All the drive train and suspension parts cost about as much as dirt does. You can get both servos for less than $25 from Hobbypartz. And what motor do you have in it now?

It you're looking to go cheap on the tmaxx, I would just trade in your engine to traxxas and get the exact replacement. Just remove the starter, the air filter, clutch, flywheel and clutchbell. Then either send it to traxxas or go to your local hobby shop for the swap. They charge you around half the price as a new engine. You can get both servos for cheap on the bay and any other parts you need. If your looking at the savage, the xl is a great truck as long as you can get it tuned. Other options would be the mgt, the Losi xxl and the 4.6 savage.

I liked the Losi LST2, but the two speed is a nuisance when you go with a higher end engine. The servo savers on the steering also suck and there isn't much you can do besides beef them up.

I got rid of mine. Got tired of dealing with it's quirks.

hobbypartz a good place to by oem and aftermarket parts? never ordered this stuff online. back when i did get parts it was at a local hobby shop but they closed down. and i believe its a 2.5. almost positive its not the "R" version

and i would hate to just replace the stock servos and have them shyt the bed in a few months. is the tmaxx worth the money or would a savage take more beating? also how are the savages to work on?

with craigslist i can look at it in my hands and see with my own eyes. ebay is a little different
and i just want to bash with it. i dont care about handling.

Savages are easy to work on. I bought a used one took the time to go through it clean and tighten things. After a few runs I had to seal the motor. Just changed the shock oil. The thing handles way better than my tmaxx and will go any ware I point it. Compared to the maxx. The maxx is a good little rig but has issues with long grass and does not stear worth a crap. I'm now looking for another savage probably electric this time for those weeks my local shop has no fuel
