does anybody know anything about the new soot filters on new diesel trucks? i mean i like to blow alot of smoke and from what i hear, this thing is federally required. does anybody know anything about it or anyways around it.

How about just knocking out the filter elements and just having a big ass can in the exhaust?

It needs heat generated from the EGT's (Exhaust Gas Temperature) to burn off the carbon and other noxious chemicals in exhaust, the big rigs even have a small fuel line tapped into the filter that acts like an after burner, so basically, if you want better fuel economy, buy a used diesel truck that was made before 2006. Ford and GM used an EGR valve to recirculate exhaust into a cooler and into the intake, which does work, but they sooted up and caused havoc with the turbo's, so the filter was designed to meet current EPA regulations.
If you take the filter off, you might damage the engine as it is designed to work with the programs in the engine for emissions and diesels need back pressure or the intake valves and turbo vanes will burn.
These filters are not at all like the Catalytic Converters, there's a whole lot more to them.

so basically there is nothing i can do. it dosent make sense. i had a 05 ram with a custom exhaust. it was 5 inch pipes and pretty much straight pipes. after the turbo it was piping straight out the back. damn that thing was loud. i miss it. some punk stole it and stripped it down so i just bought a new F450 hence the question.

as far as the programing goes, i have a friend that can program a laser pointer to control a car(J/K)

so much confusion

Guys are doing it so you know it can be done. you can also retune and probably get rid of the cel's that are sure to follow. The long term effects probably aren't know yet. I would wait until the warranty expired before i did anything other than a tuner. FYI the 6.4 supposedly sounds like crap with just a straight pipe. the general consensus seems to be that a tune that turns off regen and a dpf delete are your primary mods for better performance and mileage

i have an 07 classic silverado 2500HD and i got lucky. i got the LBZ motor and the allison 6 speed but with none of the new emissions on it. 21.7mpg with a 65hp tune

its my company truck and its not bad at all. crew cab/long bed that weighs 7K lbs and it HAULS! If you take factory numbers, its got 430hp and 780 ft lbs of torque with the economy tune.

well as far as the sound goes a liked the 7.3 and the 6.0. and i dont give a shoot about the waranty. as long as its loud and has at least 550HP/1000ftlbs torque like my ram I'm fine.

o yeah and i need to blow black smoke in car windows.:tank:

my lbz doesn't blow much smoke. not even close to how much my 7.3L did. The 6.4 is a whole new animal. 2 turbo's in series i am sure makes the exhaust tone different.

Now my turbo makes a real loud annoying whistle noise under a load right around 1500 rpm, what the hell is that about?

all turbos whistle. diesel or gas. its normal. an my dodge had a programmer for smoke. push a little button and bam smoke. it would only smoke without the chip if i was hauling 2 cars up a hill at WOT

I know some people that are making absolutel rediculous amounts of power with the soot filter and are passing emissions tests. You shouldn't have a problem getting the power that you're looking for without removing it.

I also drive an HD duramax/allison combo and absolutely love it. Have had Ford, Chevy, or Dodge, all my life, and nothing compares to the duramax with the allison. My step-sister drives a powerstroke dually, and my 3/4 ton HD with that combo will pull circles around her truck. Just the other day when we had that Dozer we used her truck to pull it and it was struggling big time. When we took it back, we took the good ole duramax and my brother in law couldn't believe it, you could hardly tell it was back there.

i pulled a 7K lb trailer the other day. sure its not a ton of weight but the truck pulled it with ease. It would roll forward at idle :D

Well actually in Louisiana you can do just about anything you want over here. They don't have any high tech equipment for testing emissions around here. As long as you have a muffler, you can get inspected, and as long as you're not disturbing the peace, you wont get a ticket. I lived in Nashville for a long time with my dad and they sniff test there. We build a 10.80 camaro that was emissions legal and passed the sniff test with flying colors. Man talk about nervous while they were running that test lol.

Yeah, you are exactly right. There are also federal laws stating that it is illegal to modify the emissions and exhaust system, and there is a federal law stating that it is illegal to alter the suspension of a vehicle from the factory geometry, and look how many people change their exhaust and suspension. I should have been clear in stating that it was what they go by when you go to get your inspection stickers and stuff. Some of the sticklers will check for a cat housing, and most people at least run the housing if they pull the cat anyway in case they get pulled over. We have so many beaters out on the road in this state compared to other states because of the economy, the law officers wouldn't be able to investigate crime for spending all their time getting delapidated (sp) old clunkers off the road if they went by the book lol. When we moved to Nashville, I couldn't believe how different it was to not see old beaters on the road at all times and actually see more nice cars than junk.

lol, i took a hydraulic press with a 2inch rod on it to my cat-converter and hollowed them, (damn explorer had 3 on it) all out.
