Anybody ever deal with a retinal tear?

Floaters are normal, they are leftovers from when your optic nerve was developing. you see them the most when looking a a bright plain background like the sky, which is irritating when flying RC planes.
Like I said, this just came on one day, a couple of months ago for me. I’ve never experienced this before. It's only in my right eye, and I only get the fuzzy strands. Still there, I’ve just gotten used to it.

The doc spent a long time looking in my right eye so he was obviously seeing something. But he said the retina still looked ok and these were just floaters. But I can't imagine floaters form perfect spheres. I would assume those are red blood cells. What was 3 or 4 the day before had become a swarm of them by today. So where are they coming from? He didn't seem to care that the number of floaters increased from 1 to a bunch in 2 days. And why would a large floater adhere itself to one spot? I dunno. I am skeptical mostly because he said to let him know if I started seeing flashes of light or a dark curtain in my periphery, and it sounded kinda ominous. Then I get home and lie down to recover and my right eye starts seeing a slow pulsing blue light while looking at the ceiling. Maybe it was the sh!t he dilated my eye with causing it, but it sure was strange. If this continues to get worse I am going to see a different doctor.

Thanks for blinding me with this image! 😐

And that is why I am concerned. This all came on suddenly. One day nothing, the next day the strip of fibrous stuff, then one floater, then 3, 10, 20, all in the course of 2 days basically.

My wife has been dealing with a whole series of eye issues including "ocular migraine" everyone has led to a quick internet search. Vitreous detachment, then epiretinal membrane (formed after some laser repairs) and finally to be done soon cataract surgery. Oh yeah, floaters too. As mentioned, with retinal tears and detachments getting it taken care of promptly is important.

I have been lucky, just a couple of floaters that eventually disappeared, so clear now. Probably cataracts in 10-20 years.

I agree try a different doctor. We are very fortunate here in Texas, having many really capable eye doctors and state of the art equipped facilities. The very latest equipment does not require dilation for many of the imaging and tests that used to require it. Last series of eye testing I had done they gave me a multi paged report with detailed images and descriptions of what each image was showing.

I had surgery last week for a full detachment. It had been a week to say the least. I work with computers as a 3d designer. So it’s been tough.

I can handle a lot of things but PLEASE, don’t take your eyes for granted. I might not get my sight back in that eye. Fingers crossed.

Moral of the story if it doesn’t look right right, than it isn’t. Good luck!

Sorry, I missed this. That really sucks man. I really hope it turns out ok.

My eye problems aren't chit compared to that. I am still having trouble dealing with these floaters. I keep wanting to swat them away like they are gnats flying around, because that is basically what they look like. But I am still worried there is something else going on.

When I first saw this thread pop up, my dysfunctional brain read it as 'rectal tear' and I avoided it like the plague. It wasn't until today that I read it correctly.
And now do you feel better about sharing your experiences wuth the rest of the class??? 🤔

I'm honesrly glad you didn't share until you read it right!!! 🤣
