Here's the situation.
Running truggy, hit a puddle during practice (they were watering the track).
The engine went lean.
Would water in the air filter do this, or do you think it got in the carb?
NCnitro gave me his answer, I had my own thoughts. Just looking for some other opinions.
Thanks in advance.

My guess would be water in the air filter would cause a lean condition. I figure if it got into the carb, it've shut the engine down outright, but I'm a douche bag!

I would say coincidence. I can't think of any reason a moist air filter would cause a lean condition.

And Monkey....you are a dousche bag!!

My self I would take the mill apart ane clean it///
Of course I will.
But what do you think the water would do? Lean or rich.
The truck went lean. I want to know if that was the cause.

i dont think thw water caused it. I've done that a couple times and nothing happened. possible coincidence.

you hit a big puddle?

IMO I think it would be a richer condition since there is more fuel than air entering the engine. I am not seeing why it would be a lean condition.

I agree with jon. Water would more likely cause a rich condition. It'll restrict airflow which would essentially richen the mix.

Maybe water DID get in the carb, and into the mixture??
I'll have to rip it down and look at it tomorrow.

I am sure you did but ARO would be a key defense here since there may be a chance water got in the mill. Hipe it didn't. Don't tell me you got the new Kanai mill as well as the ST-R. You lucky bastage.

Id be willing to bet you got water on the air filter and it made it ran lean. I only say this because I just washed my filter on my 4 wheeler and it was still wet/damp when I put it on and my 4 wheeler wouldnt idle unless I had the choke on.

No...lol
It was a mill that I had already.
The Kania engines are few on parts.
I've been looking for a P/S and bearing for mine since October.

Well if water made it down the carb and mixed with fuel, then i would think it would run like crap and die out,as for it running lean with water in filter,i doubt it would too much extra restriction,4u2nv having the choke on like that would keep it running and grab little air also, wich would explain it not starting without it.

If its just water that your concerend about, why tear it completely down? If you feel like you may have gotten something else in it then I can see that would be a necessity, but if its just a feeling that water got in it just flush it out well with fuel.

Here's my thoughts...

water in air-filter= rich
water in carb/engine= lean

totally submerged engine= instant shut-off before much damage can occur, but will give you a hell of a time trying to restart....i know....2 years ago I drove my savage into a canal (on accident), lol.

I would think water in the air filter would create a rich condition. The water will take up a lot of the porous space in the foam creating a huge amount of resistance to the air intake. By the looks of the thread this seems to be the agreed idea. Just my 2 cents.
