Four pages of text, two different threads, and still no resolve?
Meow385, I think you're getting side tracked and confused with
all the helpful information that's being thrown at you. I know I am.
It's probably best to start from the beginning.
Outline your specific needs, then decide.

1. Nitro or electric?
2. Whats your price range?
3.On road, off road, both, none of the above?
4.Do you prefer 4WD monster truck, 2WD stadium truck, short course truck, rock crawler,
buggy, truggy, touring? If you're unfamiliar with any of these terms, Google them.
5. What scale (size) do you prefer, 1/8 being larger, 1/10 mid size, 1/16 being smallest?
6.Will you be backyard bashing, track racing, both, or none of the above?
7. Will you be running indoors, out doors, both, or none of the above?
8.List your terrain. Will you be running in grass, dirt, gravel, sand, snow, mud, asphalt?
9.What ambient temps will you be running in primarily?
10. Will you be running in wet conditions? Rain, snow, mud puddles?
11.Will you be adding up grades in the future?
12.How important is replacement parts availability?
Very important, not so critical, no matter as long as the truck looks cool.
13. How important is good customer service?
Very important, not so critical, no matter as long as the truck looks cool.

Do your homework. Post your answers to these questions, It will be easier for all of us to get you going in the right direction.

Nitrotrout is absolutely right. Remember that like pretty much everybody on here, you will probably end up with a few different trucks. :)

i am thinking the t maxx classic

also for the price 400 or less

Then it settled, get the tmaxx and start having some fun. There are guys on here who know a ton about the tmaxx. So you will find help and advice easily.

Id say a Tmaxx goes a lot faster with a 3.3 and be aware that a tmaxx is going to require several hop ups right away to make it durable. Same goes with the MGT. The Losi MTs need a couple things to make em stronger but theyre dyingout so I dont recommend them anymore. The Savage is the best out of the box but its above your $400 price range. Once you tqake into account the upgrades you'll have to do to the TMaxx though you may be better off.

what are the hop ups that you think it needs?

I'm not gonna be doing insane jumps with it. i dont think i need to get the hop ups once i get it

i was looking at the break in video of the car and for the fourth tank it says not to let it switch to the second gear
how do i tell if it switches and how do i prevent it?

If you're going to be bashing in really rough fields or tall grass, yeah, you'll want a monster truck. But with some heavy oil in the diffs, these 1/8 buggies are pretty darn capable.

The two beastiest 1/8 monsters are the Associated MGT 8.0 (.50 engine) and the CEN GST 7.7 (.46 engine). They're big, they're powerful, and they're tough. They also have reverse, which is nice in a basher. These two trucks make a T-Maxx or Revo look dinky.

Scroll down to see the GST next to a Revo:

I couldn't agree more. The GST is a beast of a truck. and I know this because I actually own one!!
