Being how I earned a living in automotive for over 25yrs, and now in industrial maintenance both revolve around that stuff specifically (among a wide range of other things now, of course), it doesn’t bother me either way. I’m very familiar with the legitimate definitions of both, and that it very much rubs a lot of folks the wrong way that an engine is still indeed, a motor. About the ONLY time I ever put my .02 in, is when I happen to be around, and someone “corrects” another person for referring to an engine as a motor. -and not at all to be demeaning, or start an argument; only to educate (as most of the time that’s what that person was trying to do)..

I remember growing up, and watching a bit of drag racing (as we often did), they’d interview John Force after his run, and he’d say “motor” this, and motor “that”, and it bothered TF outta me lol.. I’d been racing 1/10 electrics consistently, and fairly seriously for a few years at that point, and “motors” were electric in my 10-11yr old infinite wisdom..
The vast majority of folks in every aspect of engine building, racecars, and MOTORsports have long referred to their internal combustion engines as “motors”, and those guys have FORGOTTEN more about their topic than I’ll ever know. And of course it should go without saying; they’re not wrong..
