What Motor Are You Running?

that's what I always respond with. "Making your car faster, without driving better, just makes you crash faster."
Back to the old hp is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you go in.

I focus on making the car light, tight and suspension right.
The speed really is the last thing you want to "hop up" if you're hoping for any longevity from your kit.
Having a hot motor and esc in my old Optima Mid, THEN changing the aluminum chassis to graphite... Had to start over again!
Holy land missle! I think that swap took a full pound off the total weight of the car! 🤣
That helped me get my r/c "priorities" a little closer "in line". 😎

Thats an engine, not a motor :p

Id like to see a Tekin 17.5 if you havent done one already.

Ya know that’s still a motor, right? 😉

Clearly the OP is inquiring about DC electric motors here, but any internal combustion engine is still a motor..

To the OP @WutUp Clegg -do you only test 1/10 motors, or do you mess with any 1/8 stuff?

We had a small engines class in school when I was in 7th grade. It was the high school drafting teacher that taught the class. Anyway, him and my dad both had pet peeves about engine vs motor. So I inherited a bit of that as well. But from a scientific standpoint, anything that provides propulsion can technically be considered a motor 🤪

Being how I earned a living in automotive for over 25yrs, and now in industrial maintenance both revolve around that stuff specifically (among a wide range of other things now, of course), it doesn’t bother me either way. I’m very familiar with the legitimate definitions of both, and that it very much rubs a lot of folks the wrong way that an engine is still indeed, a motor. About the ONLY time I ever put my .02 in, is when I happen to be around, and someone “corrects” another person for referring to an engine as a motor. -and not at all to be demeaning, or start an argument; only to educate (as most of the time that’s what that person was trying to do).. 🍻🙏

I remember growing up, and watching a bit of drag racing (as we often did), they’d interview John Force after his run, and he’d say “motor” this, and motor “that”, and it bothered TF outta me lol.. I’d been racing 1/10 electrics consistently, and fairly seriously for a few years at that point, and “motors” were electric in my 10-11yr old infinite wisdom..😂

The vast majority of folks in every aspect of engine building, racecars, and MOTORsports have long referred to their internal combustion engines as “motors”, and those guys have FORGOTTEN more about their topic than I’ll ever know. And of course it should go without saying; they’re not wrong.. 🤷🏻‍♂️😉

I believe the only people who truly care is the RC crowd. However, I am seeing more engine folks care because of the EV popularity.

Technically, by definition, a motor is either electric or IC. Even our muscles are considered as motors. You ever hear doctors ask about your motor skills of your joints?

Here the results from the Double Down on the Jerry. It's a slow motor with a ton of torque. The tremendous amount of torque allows the racer to slap on much bigger pinion gears.

So, I was curious about modifying a Slot Machine and a Double Down. I decided to swap rotor between the two motors.

Mind doing a 1/18? I've got this one, and it's amazing. Pretty quick, got some power. Only thing I have changed is the starting power. It starts on like 15% punch, takes about 2 seconds to start going faster. I also increased the responsiveness.

I'm hoping to be able to do all motors someday. I have to pay for these, so there are large gaps between motor purchases. LOL...
