ok, I've got all that i need and actualy got it started.
I can rev it but it conks out at idle.
There are 2 screws the large one turned by hand and a small screw.
Whats the normal settings

Where is the second screw, under the air inlet? I'm pretty sure that engine is a single-needle engine, but could be wrong. If there is a low speed adjustment, it will most likely be the center screw of he carburetor arm, but don't mess with it if there is. That makes the other screw the idle speed adjustment. Never "up" the idle to keep it running, then you'll have two problems, bad tuning and high idle.

There 's no "normal" setting. Do this right now so you know where you are: gently turn the HSN in all the way in until it stops, counting the number of turns required to get to bottom. This will allow you to put it where it was if you go too far off. For future reference, turning in (clockwise) leans the fuel mixture, providing less fuel in proportion to the air, and counterclockwise enriches the mixture.

I am going to guess that last time it was run, it was leaned out for performance, so after turning it all the way in, set it back to where it is now, then try turning it counterclockwise 1/4 - 1/2 turn to get it started. After it warms up, you can lean it back out for performance, but try this first. It is always a good idea to err on the rich side.

This has been already mentioned. Do not run a nitro engine without an air filter. The least bit of dust invthere and it will scratch the engine internals, you'll lose compression, and the engine is worthless until you put a new piston and sleeve in it, which may be hard to find for this oldie.

Are you sure that's a Kyosho and not a Tamiya?
Yeah, the only FS-12 engine i saw (looked just like the one pictured) was in my cosins tamiya

can't remember if was a single neadle carb or not, i only saw it brefily, and it was already tunded fine.

Ok, I've just given it to the model shop for a full tune, I've given them a $80 budget for parts that may be needed.
So when i get it back it will be a case of pull and go, thats what i wanted in the first place.
I'm not into racing in comps, just cuting loose in the drive way.

Cool! They should get ya set up. You will want to read up on engine tuning all ya can though. Youll learn as ya go, but even after being int he game for a few years, Tuning still gets tricky for me. And youll have to do a little tuning day to day. Tune changes in climates, weather changes, and so on. Temp guns help ALOT too, so keep that in mind. Anyway, let us know when ya get it back and how shes runnin for ya! Good luck!

Make sure that when you get it back, you have them teach you how to tune it. It'll take them only a few minutes to show you how to tune it, but it'll help out a LOT.

I've always had an ear for tuning caby engines in cars, but this little engine got the best of me.
With a carby I've always been tought that the air/fuel screw should be set at 3 turns as a base setting and go from there, that always got me out of trouble but not this time
