Hands down... the Tekno ET410 mini truggy is the one that had such an impact on me. Although it was not my first RC that got me hooked, nor was it the first 4wd stadium truck/mini truggy. Simply, it is the most fun I've ever had in a 1/10 scale RC platform.

What an impressive collection of favorites and memories in this thread. Adding mine to the mix - a 1/8 nitro bug DuraTrax Axis RTR. Not my first RC, but my first nitro and first among many fond RC memories.

Raced it in the THRC (Team Houston RC) series 2003-2005. Later hung on the wall in my shop until selling on Ebay. Big mistake. Liked it so much that when I built my MBX7 years later, had the body on it painted to replicate the Axis.

All-electric here now but still regard my nitro days as the most fun. -AC

friend of mine has one of those (same friend that has the RC10T). it was the first 1/8 buggy any of us ever got our hands on. out of the box the steering was not great. but it was a good quick reliable buggy. it made me want one. then Duratrax came out with the Quake and i wanted that instead.
true story. one day we were running our RC's in the park, he drove it under the fence into the golf course and was doing speed runs up and down the fairway while a group of guys were golfing. they actually got a kick out of it, thought it was cool.

This is mine, A mostly stock Traxxas Slash 4x4 #47 Mike Jenkins VXL Brushless got it as my one and only Christmas gift of 2010 ran it a few times and had it until Summer 2011 when sold it along with all of me and my Dad's RC stuff.

Here was my first Slash 4x4, Though i had several others including my current Ultimate edition but i always loved this Mike Jenkins body and i sometimes i wish i could find one in good condition to put on my current. It also the infamous VXL-3s 2 pole system that heard used to catch fire on some people and a Traxxas Link TQ 2.4Ghz radio.

and an old Late 90's Traxxas 4-Tec 1.0 with a mechanical speed controller with a Stinger 20 Turn brushed setup and an old Traxxas TQ 27Mhz AM Radio. This car was technically my Dad's he bought off Craigslist for $80 plus a couple bodies and a couple old Nicd batteries. Crazy to know this car goes for over $200 - 350 in good used condition nowadays.

These are the two most memorable RC cars of my childhood and sometimes i wish i still had them today although the 4-Tec would most likely end up being a shelf queen. And i most likely would wore out my old Mike Jenkins Slash 4x4 so in a way i'm glad i moved on from these old cars and i have such amazing rigs nowadays. But i still fondly remember these old cars.

Those 2-pole VXL systems in my experience are awesome. Most people having issues were running speed gearing in them, which if I had to guess, is why traxxas no longer includes the larger pinion in the box like they used to. Best part about the old VXL-3s was being able to run sensored motors, although very few folks likely took advantage of that feature.

I would never give that system up, that's probably the last good Traxxas branded ESC right next to the MXL-6s(rebranded MM2). I'm not impressed with modern Traxxas speed controllers. I've had every vxl-6s ESC I've ever owned fail within 5-6 battery packs. On a $600 vehicle, it stings when I pretty much have to factor in another $200 into the purchase price because the ESC's are so god awful.

My first one was a Kyosho Pegasus I bought in 1985 - Loved It, except for the lame-o 13-minute runs with 20 minutes in between to charge up the one Tamiya flat-pack battery I had. After bringing it back and playing with it a bit in 1997, I got the bug again when my pal Lewis bought a Yokomo YR-4 and let me run a few laps around a 'course' we laid out between some concrete islands in a big parking lot. Then I bought my Kyosho SuperTen GP and it was 'Game On' at that point - I got hooked on Nitro and haven't looked back. We ran Saturday mornings for the better part of the whole summers between '98 & '99. Then Lewis moved away in 2000 and some of my other weekend racing buddies did as well. That's when I acquired my buddy Jeff's Traxxas Nitro Hawk from one of those guys who moved away, but I never did anything with it since my heart was into road racing.

Sometime in 2014, I got the bug again and picked up a couple of HPI NRS4s (racer and base model) along with a Super NRS4 from ebay for cheap. I got them in race shape and ran in a local parking a few times - all by myself - and was a little bored since I didn't have anyone to race with. So they went back on the shelf.

Now here we a few months ago, me getting the bug again, joining this forum over Christmas break and learning of a local off-road track, and decided to bring the 'Hawk back to life, when one of the local guys posted his Mugen Sekei 1/8 Nitro buggy, since he wanted to stick with his electrics and decided to sell it. I got a smokin' deal on it, and have been picking up Nitro Hawk parts, a monster steering servo for the Mugen, a nice FlySky radio & receivers), and have been posturing to revive the SuperTen and get a mini-me version PureTen GP FW-06 to scratch the road racer itch (so I don't have to try to repair the HPIs and SuperTen with non-existent parts.

The sucky part for me has been bad weather and lower back issues, which will hopefully start getting resolved in the next few weeks. I need to find out if I can run the 'Hawk and Mugen to see if I can drive off-road and be competitive. Somewhere in there, I'll find some time (and hopefully some new friends) to run some road course races as well.

There was one kid i used to watch he had 3 2 pole VXL-3s systems fail on him in his Slash 4x4 before he went to a Castle Mamba Max Pro (Ancestor to the Cobra 10 and Mamba X). But as you mentioned it might have been a case where he ran speed gearing all the time so that might have been what happened. Most of my Traxxas electronics have been fine but the Radios and the Servos were the problem areas in some of my cars although i drive very light so that might help them some. Yeah those old Castle rebrands they did for Traxxas were awesome and possibly better than the new VXL 4 - 8s ESC's the only car to my knowledge that still has a Castle esc in it from stock is the XO-1 and for boats the Spartan and M41 Catamaran Widebody which use a Castle marine ESC.

My current most memorable RC car is my Traxxas XO-1 (Originally a V1 but converted to into a V2) now known as Serena i've had her since July 8th 2022 bought her July 4th 2022 from Cash4RC on eBay as a new rolling chassis my first ever rolling chassis. I initially found out about these cars in Fall 2021 and instantly fell in love with them but at first was told not to buy one by many but in the end i had my heart set on getting one.

Here she was when i first bought her.

Here she is with her original custom painted blue V1 body.
20220709_141818.webp

Here was her first ever setup back in April 2023. With a hobbywing Max 6 G1\4985SL 1,650kv combo from RC Power on eBay, a cheapo Amazon servo, my pair of Zeee 3s 11.1V 100C Lipo batteries and controlling it all was my trusty old Futaba T4PM. And she was a handful with this setup but i ran her for a good long while.
20230424_133332.webp

In March 2024 i rebuilt her for the first time with the intention of making her into a V2 but i screwed a few things like the diff fluids and painting up a new body. I also put in a fancy new Castle MMX8s\1717 1,650Kv sensored combo, new Zeee batteries and my former Radiolink RC8X radio.
20240312_200522.webp

After several runs and breakages later i started to lose hope in this car and i even considered selling her and replacing with a Limitless V2. But i toughened up and made a commitment to get her sorted out and driving the way like.

Now fast forward to February of this year i finally ordered all the parts to fix her properly and some extras and rebuilt her a second time this and this time she performs amazingly. Her new electronics are my Castle MMX8s from her 1st rebuild but now i have a stock Traxxas\Castle 1717 Big Block 1,650kv sensorless motor, a different servo, same batteries but now with a Spektrum DX6C radio and a SR6200A AVC receiver. She now is close to perfect and she performs like a completely different XO-1 than what she used to be. Here she is today.

This is her current top speed on my neighborhood street. Running on 6s with 16p\46s

She is now the longest running project i've ever done as well as my all time favorite on road car and it's been a labor of love and persistence as well as a rollercoaster of highs and lows. I still have a few things left to go before she's complete like a new body, new tires, new servo and a few other small things. And hopefully i'll get to speedrun her and hopefully hit 100Mph with her.

The Traxxas E-Maxx has been a favorite for a long time...

View attachment 221016
Neat E-Maxx, I sometimes want to get an original E-Revo Brushless Edition like the ones that Jang and JP had but they seem to be hard to find and i worry about parts support sometimes and durability with those old trucks.

This is the truck i would want if i had the money.

For me it's my SCX6, it's just a total beast. I wasn't into rc's when I was younger so recent era stuff is what I have to choose from.

thank your ruining my faith in humanity. those cars were known to be junk in the 90's. even fanboys admitted it back then. realistically in good shape it should be a $120 car all day, maybe $150 if it's mint. a cheap parts car should be like $50-$65.
someone needs to tell the fanboys that a car with a 10+ year production run that sold no doubt tens of thousands of units that nobody liked except for a few of the people who owned them isn't valuable. not everything old is a collectors item.

Quick search on google and I can get a pretty nice slider for under $100. 25 year old lexan, tires, electronics or batteries isn't worth anything IMO... regardless of who made it. I think even $120 is a bit steep. My 2006 SWB 3.3 T-maxx was free and I wouldn't have paid more than $75 for it. If I really wanted a 4-tec I would just get a new one... but if I wanted an on road basher, I wouldn't be getting 4-tec. Too many options from even cheap Chinese companies like rllarlo that run circles around a 4-tec in handling, pricing and durability for it to even be relevant anymore. I'm surprised they still sell it... especially when the bl-2s rally is only $30 more. If I wanted something "vintage" to look at, id grab a Tamiya TT-02 before a 4-tec.

I see CRUSTY 15 year old HCG slash 4x4's for sale locally time to time and people want $75 less than MSRP... at that point you may as well buy a new one. Don't even get me started on peoples pricing for a used standard Xmaxx/XRT's after traxxas put out the "Ultimate" edition. The pricing folks come up with for used cars regardless of brand is criminal IMO. I know how I treat my rigs, I couldn't sell most of them in good faith for even half the cost of new knowing what I've put them through and they're still treated 10x better than the average used listing on Facebook. 😅

There's a 'rare vintage discontinued hard to find' seller on ebay who would love to have you believe otherwise! 🤣

my $120-150 was for a shelf queen "collector" car for the 9 people who had one and somehow have fond memories of it.
a nice slider being under $100 is fine if its complete i guess. but yeah, you would be better off spending just a hair more you can buy a brand spanking new TT-02.

people are delusional about slashes. at least the 2wd ones, never bothered to look at the 4x4. its the second worst short course truck in history. and used, people want damn near retail for them. like wtf, you beat that thing like a redheaded step child, have never touched the diff or shocks. put a couple new parts on it cause your broke stuff. are you on drugs?
the only old traxxas trucks iv found that people are realistic about the value of are stampedes and to a slightly lesser extent rustlers. complete sliders all day long sub $100.

yeah that guys in the early stages of on meth.
