my $120-150 was for a shelf queen "collector" car for the 9 people who had one and somehow have fond memories of it.
a nice slider being under $100 is fine if its complete i guess. but yeah, you would be better off spending just a hair more you can buy a brand spanking new TT-02.

people are delusional about slashes. at least the 2wd ones, never bothered to look at the 4x4. its the second worst short course truck in history. and used, people want damn near retail for them. like wtf, you beat that thing like a redheaded step child, have never touched the diff or shocks. put a couple new parts on it cause your broke stuff. are you on drugs?
the only old traxxas trucks iv found that people are realistic about the value of are stampedes and to a slightly lesser extent rustlers. complete sliders all day long sub $100.

yeah that guys in the early stages of on meth.
I think your not seeing the point some people like collecting old RC's or anything trust me i used to be both a doll and MLP toy collector i grew up with my Mom being a big time Barbie, Monster High and Disney Princess doll collection. And btw i would never buy a TT-02 they are at least the standard ones are garbage my Dad had one and it constantly fell apart on him and he eventually left it to rot in our garage. Also i love Slash 4x4's they're mostly likely one of the best basher SCT's made currently and i've had several of them and only had very little issues with them.

If you want more info on TT-02's just go ask @DavidB1126 he had one and he eventually gave his away since it was so terrible i wish i could throw my Dad's away since it'll most likely never get fixed and will continue collecting dust until the day. if you want a good quality affordable on road car just get either a Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0 BL-2s or VXL or an HPI RS4 Sport 3 or a Kyosho Fazer MKII.

Losi JRXT for the win. I'm a truck guy.

My local track hooked up best with a fast/strong servo and the staggered front tires. Old school X tires on the rear. (were those Losi tires? I don't remember, but they hooked up) We didn't run foam inserts back then. Natural-ish dirt, indoor. Changed from good hook to loose over time.

Of course everything changed when they offered a track at a special event. Which was super fun and challenging. And just different drivers and their perspectives.

(Like really? Do you need to solder your battery packs? to the ESC? For every run? Mmmmkay?)

I'd argue that even $100 is too expensive for a slider, that's what complete yet used, brushed 2wd Traxxas models should sell for.

My most memorable rc, well I still have them all besides the tamiya so. Id have to say my slash OBA when getting it for my first "real" rc when I was a kid. Id also have to say my B74 because that's what got me into racing and learning everything about shocks, diffs, electronics, everything on, and making me a better driver on racing line and jumping and stuff.

If we want to say most memorable RC experience, well i got a few.

At my first race with my slash when I was like 6 or 7, in the A Main young guns class my left rear tire came unglued and fell off. I kept driving like nothing happened bc I didn't know what was going on lol. Probably because my uncle glued them up fast right before the race so.

Another experience, at the old track when I was switching cars for the next race I got my B74 and put my mini b on the table, forgetting to turn it off and/or unplugging it and when running trashy radiolink radios which I didn't have ID seed set, when I went to go do my check in lap for 4wd buggy, my mini b went full throttle off that table. LOL. 🤣 😅 🙃 Atleast with the higher end or modern radios each model memory has its own ID so you can't cross models when running multiple cars causing something like that to happen. (Since radiolink is so outdated, lol)

Oh yea and another one that always pops in my head although not a funny or good one is when the radio, not me, ran my car full throttle straight under the driverstand because it was a poorly manufactured radio with a faulty defective firmware. Learn your lesson folks. Don't use no name Chinese electronics. Even if they have good reviews, don't do it unless tested and truly tested by a unbiased reviewer or someone you know.

Give it to me then! Maybe I could find a use for it...or at least the shell.

Back to the thread topic at hand...

1. Nikko Big Bubba, my first RC, a proper 4wd monster truck with an electronic board. Still own it today with hobby grade guts.

2. Traxxas Rustler 2wd, first hobby grade RC. The crap MSC of the time and bald tires made it get less use than the Nikko.

3. WPL D12...for all the wrong reasons. Easily the most fragile RC I've ever owned. Snapped 2 chassis and goofed up the gearbox while just running on the street.

4. Tamiya Frog, as bizarre and crude as the chassis was, it didn't drive too badly.

5. Tamiya Grasshopper, restoring one of these gave me the courage to really take apart my RCs. Terrible to drive, cool to look at.

Dude. I'll just say. Tamiya Frog. And Grasshopper. Was it newer generation? Cuz my generation the motor was...uhh...reversed. So it didn't jump "right".

Not that it was bad. But if you made a jump for it like your bmx bike. Yes. It was bad. It always wanted to do a front flip. As a kid, I didn't really understand it.

A flatish dirt track. I did good. For a Grasshopper whilst peeps were on Associtated or Losi vehicles. Peeps were impressed with my skills. But fixing body body pin points (because if you front flipped on a jump. bye bye body clip points) on a plastic (ubs?) tub chassis was something the hobby shop guy had to explain.

That poor guy. :)

last i checked (early January) a good quality rustler slider was $80 - $100. with hop ups they did go higher. stampedes iv seen as low as $50 but currently seem to average $85. for what they are and what you would no doubt swap out that seems reasonable. i mean we're talking mechanically sound trucks here. you can even find them with RPM arms for sub $100. idk, that seems reasonable to me.
iv seen complete old brushed trucks, AM radios, 20 turn stinger motors, $120 - $150. given that the electrics are absolutely useless that seems high. unless you're buying it as a collector. in which case you're willing to be a stupid cause feelings. idk.

Mine is probably this old truggy from new bright (toy grade). Was kinda like what our hobby grade truggies are, just dumbed down. Had some decent speed for what it was. And had a radio like in hobby rc, not like the normal game controller ones in typical toy grade cars. Batteries/electronics died and it was thrown away.

And my most memorable hobby grade is my slash. Lot of memories with family and friends in it. We actually went to the Traxxas store in Texas to get it. My uncle decided to get a blast and a slash for himself, and we even went to a track. Also I've had many great memories with friends racing just as it gets dark on the street.

And yes, every slash you see in my threads is the same slash.

If we're digging into 'any' R/C models, I still have a couple of old Nikko toys (Snakebite Monster Truck and a TJ Wrangler 'monster truck' - both 2WD), along with a Tyco Turbo Bandit that had a smoked main board, so I made a small Futaba servo and Novak Rooster ESC fit in there and ran a few times before I think the 9.6V battery smoked the ESC... or something. I need to dig it out and have some fun with it again.

This is so cool to read about all these classic RCs. It got me thinking about mine. My most memorable toy grade RCs (out of probably a dozen) would be these:
- Tyco Ricochet, I remember driving this one full speed everywhere! And you could run into stuff, flip it over and keep on going! What kind wouldn't enjoy that.
- Tyco Typhoon Hovercraft, I can still picture this one. Not sure if anyone remembers this thing. I remember playing with it trying to hover over puddles and stuff. It was quiet squirrel to maneuver and since the bottom was a material I just recall it not lasting very long. But man was it fun when I had it!

My most memorable hobby grade is most definitely my RC10T3 and I love that I still have it. So many memories between picking it with my dad and him helping me with painting the body. All those times we went to the hot, dusty rc track in the summer to go bash that thing around, good times.

The most memorable was my first, the Tamiya Grasshopper. Got it as a Christmas gift in 1985. It was by far the coolest Xmas gift I ever received as a child. So many good memories with that thing. It was always the toy my parents took away when I got in trouble. It was still consuming current when I graduated HS and gave it to my little brother when I moved out. Never saw it again. I sure miss that car. I see you can still buy them and thanks to this thread, I may just have to get one.

This chassis is VERY straightforward and is quiet easy to build as a general statement.
This is a PERFECT beginner!!! 😍
My first hobby grade rc was a Tamiya Hornet, same chassis. I loved that car! I'll restore it too some day.
I had no idea these were avail pre-built. I think building it was 90% of why I loved it so much!
All those parts stacked in a box, screw bags and shiny new lexan!!! ...and the smell of those new rubber tires was intoxicating! 🤣
I hope you decide to pick another up! 👍

Marui Big Bear. The first time I hit the throttle and those big tires ripped through the loose gravel in our driveway, I was in love with RC. I still hear those tires ripping every time I think about it. It was the fastest thing I had ever seen at the time. Mine was painted black, and I cut the side windows out and added window nets.

I had a Scorpion before I had my Mauri Big Bear, but I loved my Big Bear a heck of a lot more than my Scorpion. I wish I could afford another.

Yeah, I have missed a couple really good deals on them on ebay. One was mint for less than $400. I so wish I would have grabbed it. It is my holy grail right now.

I have another memorable RC my Traxxas XO-1 known as Serena, I bought this car as my first high powered on road car on July 4th 2022 as a rolling chassis from Cash4RC on eBay although it took a few months to get her running for the first but man she was a handful.

This is what she originally looked like.

Then i converted her to a v2 version and rebuilt her a couple of times. This is what she currently looks like.

Here's an under the body pic of her, She's now running a Castle MMX8s esc with a stock motor, Amazon special servo and my Spektrum DX6C Transmitter with an AVC receiver also changed the diff fluids to 500k front and rear to help her stay straight and handle good.

I also got to give her a speedrun down my neighborhood street and she did 55Mph on 6s with 16p\46s.

While she's probably not as capable as the Arrma 1\7 platforms like the Infraction, Limitless and Felony (I have that one too) but i still enjoy this car and maybe someday i'll get her up to 100Mph if i find the right road for it.

As a kid I had these tiny R/Cs called ZipZaps. They were sold at Radio Shack and came in all kinds of different bodies, rims, tires, motors, gears etc. Definitely had a lot of fun memories with them. The GTO Judge was my favorite.
