What is a good hobby grade electric for a 4 year old

Just wondering if anyone has opinions on Losi 1/36 micro t versus Losi 1/36 highroller. Is one more durable than the other?

The Highroller is quite a bit bigger than the Micro-T. Should be a little easier to work on if something breaks. As far as I've heard, they are quite durable.

Good for outside use, or still only for indoor. I think that the Micro t would be good for only indoor, but what about the highroller?

I would only run those sizes indoor, or on the patio. For outdoor use I like something like a 1/16 Slash(non VXL). Reason why I say non VXL is the brushless system is to powerful for kids. This thing can be cartwheeled on the road at 30mph and come through with only minor scratches on the shell.

How 'bout this build for a 4 year old.... :hehe:

Looseman is spoiling that kid rotten. :hehe:

My 8 year old nephew wasn't much better last summer. Drove my XXL head on into a brick wall. Slow though, I had reduced EPA before giving him control. :);)

I know how it is to spoil one's nephew's and nieces. I have a niece that is 18 months and I enjoy spoiling her rotten. The fun thing is that my sister encourages it. Have fun with the RC and young 'un.

Wow 10 Gauge, that thing would be nuts for my son, I know that he would love to have something like that for sure, but for now I'm going to start him out slow and much smaller. lol:whhooo:

The main difference between the Micro-T and the Micro High Roller is that the High Roller is lifted higher.

I have the traxxas bandit (brushed) for my daughter, The Rustler (Brushed) for the oldlady, Slash 2wd (brushed) for my son, emaxx (brushed) for all and a slash 2wd(brushless castle 5700) for me of course and the family loves them all we trade off here and there they are still timmid of the brushless power though (Kinda fun to watch).. Great bugys for the kids for electric 2wd and the bandit, rustler are alittle over 200 and slash brushed is alittle under 300 you can sometimes find deals here and there...we all also have nitro for the weekends i found that electric was great for around the house bashing so the nitros dont over heat in smaller spaces and the noise in smaller areas gets to be too much with 4 going... as soon as the kids started bashing and racin with me it made the hobby alot more fun I think.....

Here is an update: I picked up the Losi micro highroller for my sons bday tomorrow(4th). He is going to freak out!!!! I have watched alot of vids (what you can find on youtube for these things anyways) and they go like stink and look pretty durable too. For the price (110 after tax) it should be a good starter for him. He will be able to learn to use the pistol grip radio.

Thanks again to all who have posted on here

The other good news is that if he breaks it, you can get replacement parts.

Just make sure you have a fully charged battery ready when he opens it! I remember when I was a kid and my grandma bought RCs for all of us, with rechargeable batteries, but never charged the batteries. This was back in the early 80's and there were no "quick" chargers then. That made for a disappointing Christmas.

Yeah, that is exactly why I wanted to buy a hobby grade for him. And everything is super cheap to replace! The front steering assembly for this thing is like $4 to replace, a shock set is like $15, tire upgrade is $15/4, and best of all LIPO batteries.......uh yeah, not until he is a little older, or this is going for a rip down the stairs, but even lipos are cheap for this truck.

Good point, thanks

I picked up a micro-t and they are pretty sweet!!!!! evryone wants one now... I am going to make the switch to brushless in next couple weeks.. I also grabed 1/24 losi micro SCT. I kinda like those alittle better dont know why but we have been driving these things daily on a track i built in the basement.... U might want to adjust the stearing response on the controler I have found they turn sharper then what they need to... the high roller might be alittle different but figured i would let you know the only real problem i have found with it..... they are a great learner though I never thought of those for learners. l.o.l

Yeah, I might build a little track for him to burn around on too. This is going to be a daily driver for him, he eats sleeps and breathes RC's....he is crazy for this hobby (I am very happy about that, by the way, because so am I!!!)

When he gets better at driving it, I might upgrade his to a lipo setup with the brushless system, you can't beat the price of the upgrades for these things and with brushless lipo, they rip!!!

yes they do they are definetly along way from wally world specials!!!!!!!!!!!! I wasn't expecting to enjoy the little ones as much as i do....I will have pics of my track soon I have them on my facebook page I use the same name on there if you wanna check out for ideas.... that and type in micro tracks on you tube some real good ideas out there!!!!!!

If you have a hobby shop nearby with a track, I bet he would enjoy having a 1/10 SCT to race. I race at two different tracks, and both have small children racing in the stock class, and these kids are good!

One day, you bet I will get him into track racing for sure! There is an indoor track about an hour from our place, that would be a blast.
