Here is an update: I picked up the Losi micro highroller for my sons bday tomorrow(4th). He is going to freak out!!!! I have watched alot of vids (what you can find on youtube for these things anyways) and they go like stink and look pretty durable too. For the price (110 after tax) it should be a good starter for him. He will be able to learn to use the pistol grip radio.
Thanks again to all who have posted on here
The other good news is that if he breaks it, you can get replacement parts.
Just make sure you have a fully charged battery ready when he opens it! I remember when I was a kid and my grandma bought RCs for all of us, with rechargeable batteries, but never charged the batteries. This was back in the early 80's and there were no "quick" chargers then. That made for a disappointing Christmas.
Yeah, I might build a little track for him to burn around on too. This is going to be a daily driver for him, he eats sleeps and breathes RC's....he is crazy for this hobby (I am very happy about that, by the way, because so am I!!!)
When he gets better at driving it, I might upgrade his to a lipo setup with the brushless system, you can't beat the price of the upgrades for these things and with brushless lipo, they rip!!!
