have a 7 cell 5000nimh venom battery.. new

my charger is a 969 brain (bought from some on this forum little while ago..)

i set the brain to 4 amps 5000nimh 7 cell and start.. it "charges" and then i put it in my new slash..

my other batteries work fine.. and i love how the slash is doing.. but

with a fresh charge the battery is only lasting about 3-4 minutes!!!!

i can tell a huge difference between the 7 cell and the 6 cell battery.. my other batteries are 6 cell..

why is this battery on lasting 3-4 minutes??

I'm planning on calling venom about it.. but i seriously can not figure out what is wrong

I bought 2 Venom 5000s from Charlie, and I know they were fine. I'm waiting for him to show up so I can find out what rates he used. I did a discharge and charge on one today, and it wasn't much over body temp. Barely warm to the touch.

same here.. please let me know if you hear anything

Sounds like the pack is screwed.

Is it charging in a very short time, or is it taking the full 1h15m to charge?

Dose that charger tell you how many mah it put in the pack I know with my Ice charger it tells me the compacity put in which is usually about the same as the charge time when charging at 0.1 amps per 100 mah, either the battery is bad or your charger dosen't like that pack, LOL!!! it is wierd that it won't charge right...

if the battery is new you wont get a full run untill after 4-5 charges maybe more some times my batt are like that they last for 2 min I'm up to 30min now

That can be true of a dead battery that hasn't been charged for a while but I have never heard of new batteries needing to be cycled right away... Anything is possible I suppose...

I've have many batt like that its pretty much like a initail charge my nitro revo i bought i new one and it lasted for 1 min and traxxas said you got to keep charging it it will get a longer life

I have had quite a few Nimh batts require 4-6 cycles before they start to hold a charge.
7 cell 5000mah, I'd charge them at no less than 5 amps. i charge my 6 cell 4200 packs at 4 amps. They can take 5 amps but my charger only goes to 4.

NiCads needed discharging, but lately I've been hearing a lot about cycling the NiMH batts. What's the story?

Xtreme RC even did an article about cycling NiMH recently. They were referring to having to do it to stored batteries that wouldn't take a charge in the spring.

Maybe it was in Car Action... I'll go look through my stack of rags and see if I can find it. Hell, it could even be in Driver. I read all three so maybe I am confused so please EXCUSE ME IF I WAS INCORRECT as to which mag it was in. Jeez... I do remember it was a story about getting your rig prepped for winter storage. Someone back me up so I can ditch swarmjt's noobie tag.

In Xtreme this Dec issue--"If it has NiMH cells in it you should leave it with a bit of charge and even put a slight bit of charge in it every few months so it doesn't drain fully."

So there!
