I don't think I mentioned that I found an optional Pro-style ball bearing diff 4420 kit. It's adjustable. I'm not going to race this rig, obviously, but thought why not.

The kit came with these 2 screws. I have no idea what their for. They're not mentioned in the instructions or in the diagrams. They are not even the same. 🤷‍♂️

Fitted the optional hardened steel output yokes 4628X and half shafts:

I didn't use the supplied grub screws. Instead used the threaded pins shown above.

Time for the brake and slipper clutch.

The spur and pegs have had minimal run time. Still like new. I replaced them before the engine dead years ago. It's a 72t spur. Og was 70t. I had been running the larger tyres so 72t more suited for them. I'm going to fit it anyway as that's all I got at the moment.

This is going to look so cool seeing this brought back the life!
I'll feel a lot better knowing its back in good condition. I felt bad having it sat on the shelf for so long in poor, neglected condition.

I've just done a few more parts orders for it. Found more of the optional parts.

I'm actually looking forward to the second, spare parts build too. And running it.

I have restored just a few RC's over the years. They were all the most rewarding when finished. Especially after gathering all the parts for a long time.

New flywheel fitted to the new motor. Reusing the old clutch shoes. Waiting for new clutch bell as the old one is rusty.

Removed pull start. I'll use that on the second build.

The rear suspension arms next. Although, I don't have all the new parts needed.

Exploded:

The old inner hinge pins were bent and rusted. Had to use a hammer and punch to remove them.

Cleaning the pin holes with the wife's straw brush 🤫😆

The arms are still in great condition. Not bent and pin holes still round.

New Aluminium axle carriers, bearings and pins:

I'm waiting for the stub axles and aluminium suspension arm mounts.

I'm a bit confused with this one. Hopefully one of you old traxxas guru's can enlighten me.

I started assembling the new optional aluminium shocks I purchased.

TRAXXAS 4760: Shocks, Long, front (hard-anodized & PTFE-coated T6 aluminum) w/o spring
TRAXXAS 4761: Shocks, X-long rear (hard-anodized & PTFE-coated T6 aluminum) w/o spring

Note that they don't come with springs.

The original standard Shocks are the "Ultra shocks" which are the plastic housing shocks:

3760 front shocks, 2458 front springs
3762 rear shocks, 4457 rear springs

There is no listing for springs for the optional aluminium shocks, so I presumed the Ultra plastic shock springs would fit the aluminium shocks. I was wrong. They don't. They are too big in inside diameter. But I can't see what springs to use on the aluminium shocks.

So my questions are:
  • What springs fit the aluminium shocks?
  • Should I have purchased the other optional shocks, the Pro-level Big-bore shocks instead?
  • Or do I use the spring and retainers(perch) from the plastic shocks, on the aluminium shocks?
Here's the listings:

That appears to be a complete mystery. I put the question to Traxxas. Will let you know if I hear back anything.
