Crank bearings arrived

So I'll have to put a pin in it for now. I'm busy today and returning to work tomorrow which is ok as most of the parts ordered won't start arriving till the 24th.

I've ordered some more hardware and a slipper spring kit. Everything I've previously ordered has now been posted. Finally 🙄.

I have a lot more to order but it'll have to wait till next pay day as I've drained the accounts and the wife is on my back about it. 😬😆
My ebay cart is full and ready to hit checkout.

Hopefully the ultrasonic cleaner arrives on time so I can start cleaning parts. It will be very handy. Not just for RC stuff.

I still need to decide on which servos to get.

To be continued......

I have more parts that haven't arrived yet and still more parts to order. I haven't had an update about the .15 motor shipping.

At least I can start cleaning parts.

That cleaner looks like an old radio my grandfather used listened to. 🤣
I can't wait to see how it works though!!! 😎👍
Thats quite a pile of parts you've got ordered there... this BETTER be good!!! 🤣

Yes I bought the older dial style with the knobs over the digital type for reasons. More reliable and has a better heat range. The digital only went up to 80°C I think. The digital didn't have any extra features listed.

More to come too. It's mostly the metal hardware parts because of rust.

Just ordered more bits and bobs.

More fasteners and stuff.

The Traxxas option hard-anodized and PTFE-coated T-6 Aluminium shocks to match the fronts.

A bearing kit from my usual supplier, Plaig Bearings.

Servo saver, front suspension tie rod, slipper press plates ++

Just ordered a new starter motor. The old one still works but looks old and crappy so would look out of place on the new engine.

You could send that out to have it engraved or powder coated or something at least. 🙄 Jeez!!! 🤣
I think I'd have taken the old motor to the buffing wheel and called it good! 👍
Nice job stepping it up with the fancy new stuff! I can't wait to see you ripping this thru the red clay down there!!! 😎😁🤣

I used to buff mine with a dremel years ago.

Yes it's a bit bare. Maybe if it was red it would go faster 😉😆

I'm trying to restore it to near new condition. This has been made easier by sales and discounts on ebay etc. I've been lucky so far.

Not going to happen.
Not with this restoration build. It will be more of a shelf queen.
The second build will be the basher. The spare parts build.

I've been dremeling the exhaust pipe today. Not to a polished finish but to a brushed/scoured finish.

I understand. I am a reluctant shelfer too.
I have rc's that I love, that kick azz and would be a lot of fun to run but PARTS!!! 🤮 The prices for some stuff is just stupid $$$!
I'm hopeful for a new parts supplier. 1st order placed a week or so ago. Prices are worth waiting a little while to ship. 🤞
I am resto-modding this Optima Mid with full intention of racing it. Hopefully we do well! 😁
I plan to build another one or 2, also to run/race before I start the OG Optimas. These will likely be shelfers... we'll see. 😁

I have had good luck restoring metal with steel wool and Mother's Mag and alum wheel cleaner paste.

Red makes EVERYTHING go faster btw!!! 😉🤣

Two thumbs up, mate. :thumbs-up: :thumbs-up: These are going to be a great restos. Love seeing life breathed back into a classic.

In the past, I've found Valkyrie useful in resto. He mainly supports AE and Losi classic and resto parts, but is a useful reference. And he may be a resource for hard-to-find. Posting the link below:

I wish I would have read your post earlier, I could have saved you some $$$, I have a nitro revo I'm getting ready to put on a diet, parts for trade, eliminating front , center and rear diff, pulling motor, adding 3slipo and a stampede rear differential while retaining the axles and swing arms, hopefully i will end up with a wider taller 2wd stampede ish revo??🤔

Apart from cleaning some parts with the new ultrasonic cleaner, i haven't really had much time to work on this build.

Here's some before and after cleaning photos. It does a great job. That's in a 50/50 mix of Simple Green and distilled water.

I did manage to visit a hobby store and this was the haul. Some parts for the resto, some for the second build and spare parts.

Happy they had the hop-up Aluminium axle carriers

I wanted to accomplish something on this build before I go back to work tomorrow so grabbed some chassis parts and started assembling. This is as far as I got before needing more parts or needing to clean more parts. Some of the screws I used are corroded but I'll replace them when I get stock.

That lower plastic chassis plate is not deformed. The photo made it look that way for some reason.
