i have a rustler that has been sitting in my garage for a couple months now cause the motor went out again. i was going to sell in ad buy something better but got to thinking why sell it just to buy something more expensive when i can upgrade the rustler... would it pay off in the end to put money into the thing and what upgrades are good like brush-less sys, bearings, wheels and tires, etc...

Rustlers are great bashers, go the RPM route along with aluminum in just a few areas. They also do good for speed runs, I think people have had them over 100 mph, not sure though (I'm a basher). It would probably be WAY cheaper to make it a great basher, than it would be to make it record setter for speed.

I agree Rustlers are very good Rig's to have & the options of upgrades are endless just a few of my suggestions would be
1. Brushless motor & ESC setup 3800 - 4200 KV's in motor & sensorless motor & 3 Cell lipo will get ya pretty good Hi Speeds
2. RPM components / front & rear bumpers / A-arms ECT
3. Upgrade the Spur gear from stock "but dont really need steel gears" plastic is fine as long as your mesh is set right
4.If rustler doesent have it already upgrade to 2.4 Gig radio & recever
5. New set of tires on all 4 points would be good too

Rustlers are awesome. Put a 3800kv 4 pole motor in there but if you run it on 3S you'll want to upgrade the axels to the ones that the 4X4 Slash uses. Any RPM upgrades are really good. If it doesn't have a 2.4GHz get a Flysky GT3B. As for tires it just depends on what terrain you're running on.

Once you buy a new rig, after bashing and beating you will never EVER get what you have put into it, ALWAYS! You will always be dropping $$ into it but its just how far you want to take this hobby.

IMO the Rustler is a sweet little truck.

Oh I forgot to mention if you dont plan on going for 100+MPH runs then you could also get the MIP steel axels instead of the heavy duty 4x4 slash ones.
