I'm going to show you some things, but I want you to understand me first: I love old and battered RC cars because you can feel the fun their previous owners had, and how committed they were to keeping the old girl running, sometimes by any means necessary. So, when I throw in the occasional "what fresh hell is this?" into the post below, know that it is said with the utmost respect.

Anyway. I bought this. Take a good look at these first two photos and see if you can spot all the "excuse me, what?" moments I had breaking her down.

The title of the item was "Older Vintage Model Losi / Associated? 1/10 2wd RC Truck Roller Slider Chassis", followed by "not sure on exact make/model, if you know please message me!!". I immediately clocked the SC10 chassis, but I've stripped this thing down entirely and I still have questions.

Want to have a look inside?

First up is maybe some normal stuff for a basher, we've got our mixed turnbuckles. Keep an eye on those brand names, though, because we're about to get weird.

(Did you spot the shock rod end?)

I initially thought the body post arrangement was the later SC10.2 mounting system, but on a second look I spot a logo that should only ever really be on my tires. Looks like a Pro-Line Pro2 SC died (or was converted to an SCB) to keep this truck alive.

The motor guard also isn't a standard SC10 part, looks like it's been hacked off to fit, along with the rear bumper braces. Maybe from the same donor Pro-Line Pro2 SC?

(Comparison with a not-mutilated brace).

Let's go further down the rabbit hole and check out those suspiciously large rear hubs and stupid-long rear arms. This truck would have had a stance.

Remember the Durango logo on the ball cups? Well, say hello to a couple of Team Durango 97mm CVDs. If anyone has a use for these and/or the rear arms and hubs, please reach out; they should go to someone who will use them.

I believe the Team Durango theme continues with the shocks. Can anyone confirm that for me?

She also took a hell of a hit in her front left at one point (you can see the zip-tie holding the front left arm on in the pictures up top), and maybe this is the injury that finally killed her. The shock wouldn't even depress.

There's also this weird set of holes punched through the chassis side walls. Best I can imagine is that someone used wire ties to hold the ESC down.

But the thing that caused me to raise my eyebrows the highest was this, what I can only imagine is a steel gas truck spur. It was cranked down hard against a normal Associated slipper, with no pad. You could probably kill someone with this thing. Anyone know where it's from?

So, we have... something here. It's at least three separate trucks (Associated, Durango, Pro-Line), and maybe a fourth with that spur gear. When I'm done with her, she'll be a Team Associated SC10 again, maybe an SC10.2 if I like the way the gull wings look, and I'll be racing her.

Stick around.

That spur is from the very rare 'hammer it on' SC10 version I think.
Only tools reqired for assembly were a screwdriver and a rock. 🤣

Looks like this will be an interesting one! 😎👍😁

Looks like a Durango DESC210 front end and rear end mated with a SC10 chassis, with Pro-Line body mounts.

Man I miss the days of short course racing and cheating around the spec rules any way you could... 🤣

Hah, you reckon that's what's going on here? Even better!
lol possibly! Durangos' suspension bits were stronger and the AE chassis was lighter weight. It also could have been a Saturday night garage-drinking franken-truck fun project as well.

I'd be interested to see how the front and rear ends are connected to the chassis.
