Garage door opener/spring bar decided 9 years of exercise was their limit... $585 for a complete re-build.

2. when i play a game my phone freezes and crashes. i just found out that if i bonk the phone on the desk while it freezes, it unfreezes and works. sometimes i have to bonk it 3 or 4 times to get it to finish what its doing. so yeah... sup wit dat?

Percussive maintenance.

Spent the last few days going through my Windows 11 install. Man, if you guys are using Windows 11... you BETTER look into shutting down Windows' spying abilities. Holy crap. It is absolutely infuriating how much those bastards are watching you. Just one tiny fragment of some of the stuff it can do...

There are even settings hidden all throughout Windows that will actually turn settings back on if you turn them off. And even if you use software that keeps this stuff locked out, Windows turns it back on with each update. I'm going to start wearing a tinfoil hat like Mike.

you think that's bad? look at what the execs at MS pitched for the future of Windows 11; the brief is they want to turn the OS into an "agentic" experience (getting copilot to navigate windows for you...even though search bars are built into windows for easy navigation, and there is documentation online????) and safe to say everyone absolutely DOGGED on it. it just shows how these executives are so incredibly out of touch with what the users actually want

oh and speaking of copilot, last tuesday I got a briefing from the company that we have to log copilot usage while handling customers - although you don't actually have to send the email that copilot drafted, you can just ask it to draft something and delete it right after, what matters is the fact you used it. the boss said they don't want to enforce it either but it's a requirement from microsoft themselves. I'm 100% betting they're enforcing it so they can lie through their noses to their investors that "see, everyone LOOOVES our ai assistant and they can't wait to use it when given the chance"

Not a rant, I'm just still thrilled I completed my personal goal yesterday to upgrade my ham radio license from Technician to General. It takes a bit of time to go through all the potential questions, there's 432 possible questions. Then you get tested on a random 35 of that 423. So you have to put some effort in. It feels good to not have to take practice exams after I get my kiddo to sleep or in any small instances I can get.
My radio is on order, so I'll finally have the beginnings of a proper mobile station 😊

Congrats, will it work when you really need it... underwater, you know for when your state falls off into the ocean. 🤪

For a nominal fee... up front... and no refunds if you don't 'get it'
:hehe:
You do realize he has no ā€Šfuture money, right?

🤣 Thanks!
It should be fine. I'm on in CA, so no risk of falling off into the ocean and far enough inland WA state. If the ocean makes it far east past the Cascades then it earned it.

As a contingency, I'll make sure I have the snorkel on the Land Cruiser. 🤣
