Patience, if it's meant to be, opportunity will knock. So I've got this idea stuck in my head to get and FJ60/62 Land Cruiser. I've always wanted a classic car. I used to think an old BMW was the car for me, but honestly those things are stupidly expensive now; so that dream is dead. So, I've kind done 180⁰ and been liking the idea of having one fully analog classic family vehicle. I'm calling it my dream doomsday vehicle.
So per usual, I become obsessed with looking for one on these rigs in a radius near me. I don't know how many I've looked at now. I've contacted probably a handful sellers for more information, pictures, etc to see if it's worth dragging the family on road trip to check out. Most of them are pretty inexpensive, but the rust areas on them are extensive (like roof gutters and rear quarters, cracked dash) so repair would be too costly. Another person just clearly didn't want to sell their vehicle as it was priced ridiculously for what it looked like. I actually showed them comps of other vehicles so they could understand why their asking price was insane, they removed their listing this morning, so maybe they got the hint.
So then I find one about 4.5hrs away; it's the color I like, pretty turnkey honestly; suspension replaced, steering stabilizer replaced, brakes, surface rust repaired, engine serviced, the lost goes on. Heater and AC don't work and clutch will need to be replaced down the road, but that's not too bad....asking 22k for it. I've been debating if I keep pursuing this one, I'd like to be 20k or under; he was a nice guy taking to him, maybe I can get 20k, but I dunno. But also that is a lot of money still. I probably shouldn't spend that kind of money on another car (we just bought our family wagon Subaru Outback end of last year)...I know continuing to invest my is really the best answer, but part of me wants to have some fun too!
Knowing me, I'll probably just obsess and not actually follow through. I can keep looking at the Cruiser forum and Bring a Trailer auctions to possibly land one cheaper, but no guarantee.
Oh well, a girl alcan dream I guess...
