Shock Pistons

Not sure how concerned I should be, but I went ahead and took out the slop between pistons and e-clips anyway since I had them tore apart and they felt bad. A 0.5mm plastic washer took care of the sloppiness feeling. A couple of laps and we shall see if it was a good move or not. 🤞🤞

RPM Rod Ends

The ball cups/rod ends (whatever floats your boat with names) have been/still are a go-to for many. Every time I go to wrench on the truck, I fear poppin' off the rod ends will lead to a weaker grip on the ball studs. To combat that fear...

I should've done this "hole" thing years ago 🤔 🤷‍♂️ 🤣

I should note that I only did this because of the newer ball studs have a hex socket in the ball...

Older RCs had ball studs with the hex at the base for a tool to grab hold of...

What can I say... I like dirt.

The extra maintenance... not so much.

Last time I ran the truck, either I didn't care, or air pressure was not enough to get the job done before putting the truck in the garage 🤔 😁 Gonna pull the bearings, pick it apart, and clean 'er up. I could just call it good with swappin' out bearings, but my girls gotta be fresh some weeks outta the year 🤷‍♂️😁

So much better with the filth off of them...

I'm gonna try and get another year outta the rear shafts. They're banged up pretty well from pebbles. Polished/smoothed out the roughest parts.

I've used OFNA & MIP blue o-rings in the past... I can't remember if I ever used them in the "big bore" shocks. They are just a tad bit smaller than Team Associated's red-ish seals. Still have a small supply and no sense in letting them rot.

Maxima Waterproof grease has been my go-to for lubing anything/everything after supply of Green Slime was gone.

Tell me all about that shock stand.

Not my design.

I just added name on the plate. One of my first attempts at color change... lines in front of name were too small and cooled too fast. Black inserts (under spring adjustment collars) were made for 12 & 13mm shock bodies so they wouldn't fall through the 16mm shock body holes.

Let's zoom in... 🧐

Whatcha think? The CV joints lived a hard off-road life ;) I'll probably just replace the coupler pins at this time. The balls of the bones will probably fail shortly. I don't know if I have any pins in my stash... the search is on.

Hey, hey. What do you know?... I found a new set of CVAs. Bag F1... must have been from eBay chop shop.

Weird measurement for the pins 1.58x10.88mm. I'll order some 1/16x7/16" SS dowels for future spares and grind them down as needed. I'm just guessing stainless steel is what Associated used for the pins judging by the wear characteristics.

A drop of CA on the retaining clips, to keep them from rotating, and we're back in action.

It's a challenge to deep clean with the electronics installed and, not to mention, you know you'll be battling Mother Earth again. I only take off all electronics if I'm selling... I'm not selling. We're gettin' there...
