Suggestions on drift cars

I would go with a drift car over the promoto. Theyre generally cheaper and i think more fun. Depending on where you're located you may even be near a drift club where you and your son could make some new friends.

The MST RMX 2.5 is a pretty popular platform around here

I'm not sure where your son is in the hobby but I can tell you that he might be thinking about something specific, not just a broad idea. I would look around the internet looking up "good beginner hobby grade drift cars" and stuff like that to see what pops up. I'm not a drift guy myself but I can certainly try to help. I'm 14 so maybe I can help find something good for a kid starting out.

I recently bought the kit version of Assosciated's DC10 drift car, but haven't even taken it out of the box. They do offer a ready to run version as well and I believe it is on sale in the AE Club (19.95 to join for a year) for $299

The DC10 rtr shares all the same geo and tunability as the kit, but instead of all the carbon fiber parts its plastics and alloy. So all in all, a highly competitive RTR. $299 (319.99) is a steal IMO

The body is pretty sick too, stands out from all the JDM you'll see at the track.

Definitely start RTR. Redcat has a solid drift setup that’s RTR. Only downfall is many people talk bad on them. Otherwise they are a very capable chassis. I’ve seen them do very good with my own eyes.

I personally started with the MST RMX 2.5 RTR. I wouldn’t have done anything differently, looking back now. The MST made my drift adventure so smooth and fun. Also, many other people run this chassis so you will be able to find help almost anywhere if needed. I’d personally recommend upgrading to yeah racing adjustable turnbuckles so you can set your camber and toe angles to your preference.

Just know, whatever you choose there is no right or wrong. Every chassis will drive different and every person drives different. So tuning plays a HUGE role if you wanna make progress. Just be sure to tune it to YOUR drive style.

Wow, those are awesome! Thank you for all the insight. I am screen shotting all the replies on the drifting and promoto so he can use that to research and make a decision what he will get the most enjoyment out of. We definitely do a lot more off road/crawling. But I know he loves the idea and looks on drifting. He is 12 almost 13 and spends a lot of time outside with these rc's.

I remember one summer I was out pretty much every day with the slash 😁. Theyre so much fun, and it's great for kids that are car people but can't drive legally. I never was really into RC drift, but that's a cool way to start out. Also, have him do his own research, see what cars he like the idea of, all that. Maybe he will come up with his own suggestions 🤷‍♂️. All I can say is, you're a cool mom for doing this for him 😁👍

Lol thanks! Its a nice hobby to do together. I am definitely sending all replies to him to review as he researches.

He is asking if you can go on smooth concrete with them outside? Or does ot have to be polished pavement like garages.

You can absolutely run on smooth concrete outdoors. Just make sure you have the correct tire compound for the most fun, possible😃
