As long as RC drifting has been around so has the arguement of if 4wd car can drift. I want to hear what yall think.
I personally think it should be considered drifting. My main example is Ken Blocks cars. He would always drive awd cars on a 25-75 power split.
What do yall think?

I don't really have a dog in this hunt....but I was always under the idea if it's 4wd its a power slide and not a true drift. There is a definite difference in how the 2 platforms take a corner on a dirt track...makes sense it would be considered different in any other context.

This. In the 1:1 world there's a reason you don't see AWD cars in Formula D, and don't see RWD cars (not anymore at least) in WRC. Different platforms, different speeds, and different applications.

I don't have a drift rig so I can't comment other than the fact my 1.1 drifted once or twice in the snow and it's 4x4.

4WD “drifting” is power sliding. I don’t care the car or who’s driving. Can you do a controlled power slide that appears to be drifting? Sure. Look at Ken block. 2WD takes more skill and doesn’t ruin tracks by being overpowered (turning 4 wheels at once rather than the rear 2).

didn't RC drifting start with AWD TC's? i remember TT01's with PVC and ABS tires long before i ever saw a RWD drift chassis.
in RC terms, if its a controlled slide, sideways, around a corner, with the wheels spinning, ima call it drifting.

I think 2wd and 4wd are just 2 different categories of drifting. I've played with both and maybe its just me, but 2wd seems easier. Much slower speeds. 4wd drifting is intense. Everything happens faster and with a lot more power to the ground.

I've never seen a 4wd "power slider" platform. :stick:🤷‍♂️😁
