I skimmed thru the old threads, so if I missed this already covered I apologize.

Anyways, I have a T-Maxx. Stock controls. I want to upgrade to FM and likely go synth. I don't race yet and not 100% if I ever will, but would like to beable to if the time comes. Anyways, will my stock servos work with this type of radio? I understand that the plugs may have to be changed? Also, is the JR xs3 still a decent radio/receiver combo for the money? Been seeing them for sale pretty cheap. Thanks for the newbie help.

THe XS3 is a great radio. I use it for my rides. EBAY has them really cheap too. If you are going to upgrade your radio I would suggest doing the same with the servos and use a Rechargeable 5 cell pack.. Its just going to be a better decision. You will see a big difference in run times and your servos will run at their peak using 6V.

Yeah, that is a planned upgrade, the 6v battery pack for the receiver. You say I should replace the servos, but do I HAVE to? I mean, I want to, but I probably won't be able to replace those and upgrade the radio at the same time due to $$$. Not that it is much, I only have two to replace.

Did you remove the reverse? If so then Ok. I think that the steering servo upgrade is a nice thing since I myself like to have more control of my RC's. A strong, fast Throttle/Brake servo helps on jumps, a strong metel gear High torque steering servo improves steering response a lot.

Yeah, did the FOC so only two servos now. Future plans definately include upgraded steering servo and eventially T/B servo as well. I have a bid in on a new XS3 so hopefully in three days I'll have one. They seem to be going for under $100 on ebay right now.

Bottom line is that you don't HAVE to replace your sevos if you update your radio. There's no doubt performance is better with better servos. MTs like the Maxx and Savage just love high torque steering and it helps a ton. And a quick T/B servo makes the throttle nice and responsive.
But to answer your basic question, no. You can use an XS3 system with the standard servos. Just make sure you check the polarity before you plug them in.
