Hey all!
I didn't plan to start and art thread, but since I saw one for metal art I finally figured, why not.
I decided late last year to focus my artwork on sketching/painting cars. My sketches are fairly small using 4x6 cold pressed watercolor paper as the size fits my travel sketch/paint kit perfectly.

I take my sketch kit to work everyday and use my lunch breaks to sketch out and paint mainly classic cars. I've really been enjoying it; I try to get 3-4 cars done a month. Of course that doesn't always work out between work, being a mom and my other hobbies.

The cars offer a lot for complexity and perspective. I've completed about 10 now. I've been pinning them on my cubicle wall as I complete them :). I'll use this thread to post cars as they are finished. To kick things off I've posted some that I've completed so far.

I'd love to see what other folks are sketching/ painting too! I've seen quite a few amazing paint jobs on RC bodies, so I'm sure there are some artists out there. Let's see some cool artwork!

My artistic skills arent so great. Much like in wood shop and art class where everyone makes 'ashtrays' ...apparently thats all I can draw too! 🤷‍♀️

Very cool!! My mom just turned 72 and has been painting/drawing for a while. She's actually pretty good, especially using a photo. I'm going to give her a few pics of my RCs to paint for me.

I can't draw/paint worth sh!t! 😂

I have drawn before and used to enjoy it but nothing to show for it.
I prefer wood working more but I'm completely burnt out with that.
I was actually really good with drawing when I was a kid. Unfortunately, I just never enjoyed it enough to hone the skill.
My best sketch ever was of a crappie from the pages of an In-Fishermen magazine. The shading, with a black pencil, came out better than I could have imagined I was capable of. I have always been very bummed I had lost that picture when I temporally moved away to Hawaii.

So your wood burning now? 🤣🤪

In highschool I drew alot. After highschool I drew paint designs but not much in the last 13 years.

Last real thing I started and never finished. I have two kids oldest being 7. It takes so much focus and the kids don't really allow that. I still draw on lots of things but I haven't done a piece in a long time.

That dreamcatcher is awesome! I love it. I understand about the focus part. We have a 3 yr old. That's why I scaled down to the 4x6 size, finally could complete something without demanding a ton of time/attention.

I majored in art in high school. My favorite part was sculpting though. I can look at a photo and sculpt pretty accurately. But drawing someone's face always gave me trouble.

But in high school, we had to turn in 16 sketches per 6 week grading period. Depending how much time you spent on it, Mr. Tucker would generally give you anywhere between 1 to 3 sketch credits. Most of mine got a 3, but one grading period, the first sketch was a Lamborghini Countach that I put tons of detail in. Mr. Tucker, who was an artist with work in the Wall Street Journal told me it looked like a photograph. He didn't even bother turning to the next sketch. He gave me 16 credits for it. That was the highlight of my artistic journey.

Sculpting is very cool! That's an art skill I don't have. I have a lot of high school art class sketches, unfortunately I don't have them with me, my family commandeered them to hang on the walls in their houses 😄

When the kiddo was a baby and still taking naps. I could get some free time to work on some digital watercolor paintings. I never have that kind of time anymore though.
I still take naps! 😴

The dream catcher would make an awesome tattoo.

That's awesome. Love the Hilux and the Ford. I don't have an artistic bone in my body but I do appreciate good art.

I do have some stuff I created on the puter. Art spans many genres. For a short period, I was trying to get into game development. These were some things I was toying with. Created in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and an animation program named Spriter. Notice his little antenna and satellite dish doesn't move right in the first one, as well as his rear leg doesn't drop. I later fixed that stuff, like in the second gif. A lot of work went into these, from creating each individual part, putting them all together, and studying movement to setup in Spriter to put it all together in a video timeline.

Some more Illustrator and Photoshop work. A friend from work was a huge Cowboy's fan. I also dressed him up in an animated Cowboy's cheerleader outfit and dropped it on his FB profile for his b-day 😅

This one was also animated, for a game my brother and I were working on, but I no longer have the animated files. The arm was hidden under his poncho. Then he pulled the gun, and fired a huge bullet that expanded the barrel, all Looney Tunes style, and there was a huge explosion followed by his head, hat, and entire arm moving from wrist, elbow, to shoulder to account for some over exaggerated recoil.

Just learning Spriter when I made these.

And this was a payback put on the pc desktops at work to pay back a couple friends who thought it wise to prank me. All done in Photoshop.

Then there was a period in my 20's to 40's where I did a lot of 1:160 scale dioramas. The fence was printed designs on card stock, and cut with an Xacto to resemble individual boards, and glued together. The 4x4's were actual wood, but the 2x4 runners going horizontal were laminated card stock. Every board was cut to scale. I wish I had finished pics of this one, because it had grass, a full scene on the pad with a workshop, with greasy engine parts lying around, semi tires, etc.

Those are fantastic! A lot of work when into those animations, I love it. Learning how to create artwork in the computer is a learning curve, let alone animations! 😍
