Currently looking for new controller I'm looking at the dumbo rc ddf-350 and the radiomasters mt12, possibly the spektrum dx6c. Would like to use it for my kraton 8s and my rmx 2.5 drift car. I could also use some help for gyro currently looking at the yokomo dp-302 v4. The other is the futaba gyd 550. Any info on what would be good or better would be nice I'm new to rc cars so trying to get good stuff. Doesn't have to be the best but want to be able to tune my drift car better. Thanks ahead

Don't go with dumbo or radiolink that's what Ill just put it as. If you want to know why you can check out this thread here: https://www.rctalk.com/forum/threads/new-radio-radiolink-rc8x.138874/
(Short answer to why is quality control issues. They have a huge bug going around with faulty firmware causing a bricked hardware and internal board for signal drop, loss, poor range, failsafe failing and input freeze. Also tons of other issues too like customer service. Tried to help RL fix their faults but they said no and blocked me from communicating with them so I dumped them and went to using flysky and Futaba)

Radiomaster mt12 is a great radio. Elrs for super long range and it can bind up to well known non brand receivers and protocols like that and they're still adding more protocols to the list. @WickedFog has one and he loves it. Although might be tough to navigate and setup.

Spektrum is ok. Imo its a bit overpriced for the money but can work fine if you use tons of horizon cars without switching receivers (assuming if they are dsmr protocol)

Highly recommend a Flysky NB4 Plus. Have one myself for off-road racing and love it. Nice quality aluminum. Feels great in my hands. Easy to navigate and tons of speed. It's like a high end Futaba or sanwa but half the price and imo more practical. (NB4 is also loved alot in the drift community too!)

Futaba:
I have the 3pv myself and it works pretty good. But tough to navigate through the menus but doesn't affect me as I don't make alot of adjustments. I keep this radio too my bashers and my Flysky to my race kits. 4PM Plus is also nice. Just really depends on what your budget is.

Sanwa: Known in drift and race community too. High end, the only radio I know on top of my head is the M17 and it's like 600 bucks but I know they have a few lower end radios. Sanwa isn't as known in the basher community.

I'm looking for a more budget friendly one. Like under 200$ if possible. I'd love the NB4 just would need to find used one for good price. Is there any like for sale or trade area in this form?

Much appreciated! I'm mainly bashing and now getting into drifting. So I'd like one that kinda can do both. But mostly have tuning for drift cars

The MT12 is a good one, especially if you like customizability.

If you want something not so complex and more budget friendly look in to the Flysky GT3b.

The NB4 gets alot of praise but unless you're racing its unnecessarily expensive for bashing imho.

Is the nb4 good for drifting? Or am I better with the mt12 or something like that? Also am I able to have multiple cars with those remotes? If I get receivers?

Found nb4 for 190 on aliexpress just trying to see if I need it haha I like mt12 I'll check out the gt3b

Is the fs-gt5 any better?

The MT12 is a surface radio built around flight software. Unnecessarily complex. Noble, Futaba, Sanwa... FlySky GT5 was also OK for me and comes with a tunable stability system (gyro).

Sounds like gt5 might be the one. Budget is around 150-200max prefer to stay under

NB4 will be helpful for drifting because of the speed/latency and the feel of it. I use mine racing and bashing. No complaints.
Might just have to rip band-aid off and do it i like it. I'll have 90 days to return it 🤣 but I think I'll like it will need receivers but those won't be bad I'm guessing

What gyro would you recommend i upgrade to?

Not a drifter, but have looked into it. I want to say you wouldn't go wrong with a Yokomo gyro.

Unless you got a few RCs for friends and family to play with you, I believe you'll never want to go back to cheap feeling; knob/switch rattling entry radios again. Even if just "bashing", a FlySky Noble is a great choice, and this is from someone who swore to never own another FlySky product again 🤣.

What features are important to you? Everybody's priorities are different. Compare, research... happy shopping. :thumbs-up:

Out of the NB4, MT12, GT5, and GT3b, Its a toss up between the MT12 and the NB4, then GT5, and then GT3b. With the budget you have then Id recommend either the MT12 or the NB4. Heres a comparison in the context of drifting for you.

🏎️ Latency & Response Time

  • FlySky NB4: Uses AFHDS3 protocol, known for extremely low latency (~3ms). This makes it ideal for precise throttle and steering control in drifting, where quick corrections are necessary.
  • RadioMaster MT12: Uses EdgeTX with ELRS or Multi-Protocol. ELRS can achieve very low latency (as low as ~5ms), but response time might vary based on the receiver and settings.
🛠️ Winner: NB4 (lower latency with AFHDS3, better for real-time throttle and steering input).

🎮 Ergonomics & Comfort

  • FlySky NB4: Adjustable wheel position (180° rotation) allows for a customized grip, which is a major advantage in one-handed drifting control. The adjustable trigger throw is another plus for fine throttle modulation.
  • RadioMaster MT12: More traditional grip with standard adjustments but lacks the same degree of customization in wheel positioning.
🛠️ Winner: NB4 (better adjustability and comfort, crucial for RC drift control).

📡 Receiver & Compatibility

  • FlySky NB4: Uses AFHDS3 receivers, meaning only FlySky AFHDS3-compatible models will work. If you're running FlySky-based drift cars, it's perfect, but it lacks multi-protocol flexibility.
  • RadioMaster MT12: Supports multiple protocols (Spektrum, FlySky, Futaba, FrSky, ELRS, etc.), allowing you to use a wider range of receivers and models.
🛠️ Winner: MT12 (more receiver options, useful if you run different brands of drift cars).

📺 Display & UI

  • FlySky NB4: 3.5-inch full-color touchscreen, intuitive UI, easier setup for endpoints, expo, and throttle curves.
  • RadioMaster MT12: 128x64 monochrome LCD, runs EdgeTX, which allows for extreme customization but requires more manual setup.
🛠️ Winner: NB4 (better UI and touchscreen for fast tuning during drift sessions).

🔋 Battery Life & Charging

  • FlySky NB4: Dual battery system (internal + removable power bank), long-lasting, can charge other devices.
  • RadioMaster MT12: Uses replaceable 18650 batteries or 2S LiPo, which can be swapped out easily for extended use.
🛠️ Winner: Tie – NB4 has an advanced dual battery system, but MT12 allows easy battery swaps.

🛠️ Customization & Firmware

  • FlySky NB4: Limited customization but easy to use and optimized for RC cars.
  • RadioMaster MT12: Runs EdgeTX, which allows extreme customization of mixes, channels, and scripts for fine-tuned drift control.
🛠️ Winner: MT12 (better for deep customization, but NB4 is more user-friendly).

🏆 Final Verdict for RC Drifting

🥇 Best for RC Drifting: FlySky NB4

  • Why? Lower latency, better ergonomics, and a user-friendly touchscreen interface make it ideal for precise drift control.
  • When to choose MT12? If you need multi-protocol support for different receivers or want to fully customize your radio settings.

TL;DR:
  • If you want the best performance for RC drifting → Get the FlySky NB4.
  • If you need flexibility with different RC brands → Get the RadioMaster MT12.
