Hello, I've been lurking for a few days and looking through threads, seeing people who asked questions I had and figured out most of the things I was going to ask. Everyone seemed friendly so I registered to share my first Traxxas. I have built Tamiyas for a long time, several TT's and swapped them all to one of those all aluminum chassis, so that's the vector I'm coming in from. I've never owned an off road car or a car this large. I'm very impressed by the quality of the truck, I haven't even really driven it much. I found the thread with the gentleman's Slash also riding low, so I followed those instructions and tightened my shocks so the arms sit level with the chassis ( https://traxxas.com/articles/suspension-tuning-guide-part2 ). I read someone say there were ties on them but I suppose these simply came fully uncompressed because I couldn't find anything. I've watched a lot of videos and done a lot of reading, but as I explore this flavor of RC, I would kindly appreciate any advice to not destroy it in some simple way I'm not aware of. I have been able to rent the rear wheel versions frequently, so I've driven them about 10 hours, but someone else was always doing the maintenance.
I was planning on purchasing a lot of the RPM mods like the tire rack, mud flaps and a lighting kit. How durable do they tend to me? I really like the aesthetics of the tire mounts, but I wonder if the added bars make the care more vulnerable somehow? One of the mods I wanted to ask specifically about that I've seen a few times here and other places, the mesh dust jackets. There seems to be quite a selection, do any of them stand out in particular? I don't plan on playing much in heavy rain or wet environments, mostly grassy and gravel. My usage for it would mostly be cleanliness, I have an air compressor with a blower tip to clean it up with before I put it up. I've seen people in videos that spray their car with their hose, straight onto the ESC and everything. Seems bold? Someone linked mud wheel wells and I can see their use but it adds a lot to the body. I believe I will be taping the interior of the wheel wells, I've seen a lot of people here use the metallic style tape to insulate the body a little bit, is that the best variety? Should I purchase a fan for my motor if the ambient temperature is about 80 Fahrenheit? If any of this is a terrible idea, or if a particular mod is a real lemon, I'd appreciate advice from someone more experienced.
I feel like my rear wheels are a little inward facing but I've never had a car with a suspension like this, so maybes it's just weird camber. I've checked to make sure the shocks are oiled, I've turned on that battery feature on the ECS for LiPos, I think I'm about to take it out in the morning before it gets too warm. I've seen people mention to check that there's a tiny amount of play in the transmission, but if all 4 wheels turn typically I would assume that is sufficient. I've been obsessing over this thing for a year, I wonder how many DON'T DESTROY YOUR CAR!!!! bait videos I watched that didn't have a single drop of practical advice. Please help me navigate around the dreaded, 'I wish I had known..' I'm glad I took some pictures of it before I went and got it dirty. I bought two 5000mAH 3s, I might look for a larger 2s for longer walks. I am very excited. Thank you guys in advance, have a great week.
Here are a few pictures in case anyone would look and see if anything is alarmingly out of place. I know the shocks aren't 1:1, I plan on loosening them tonight and marking them if they're not already marked to correct them.
