I would like to know who else own a Raptor and what sort of problems if any they are having. I want to compile a list of problems/solution for the raptor.

Mine is only just a month old and has gone through less than 2l of fuel and has needed the piston and sleeve replaced twice. With no visible damage to the engine but a total loss of compression, the engine doesn't even get past the run in cycle properly. No support from the factory.

I have heard of the Slipperclutch and the Gearbox giving problems.

At the moment I will probably sell mine as we can't get credit notes here in South Africa so we are stuck with whatever we buy.

Maybe get a different engine. From what I read, the engine was underpowered for the truck. Instead of sinking money into a weak engine, get something with a little more kick to it.

I only know what I read about in Extreme RC Mag. They did a pretty full review of the truck from break in to the end of a serious bash session. They said the engine is weak and which in turn wound make it run kind of hot since the truck seems to be geared more for speed than accelleration. They also noted of diff noise, but took the diffs apart and didn't see a whole lot of wear, but was a likely problem area.

Hi Olds

Thanx

I am not sure if you could possibly scan the article for me ? And email it to me.

Did they recommend any engines as a repalcement.

No, I don't think they did.

Send me a PM with the email and I'll scan it... if I can remember what mag it was...

Crap, I'm sorry... I just looked at the mag and it isn't the raptor. It's the trinity spyder.

Sorry about the mis-information.

Ok Thanx

Even more confused now I thought I had some direction by replacing the engine.

Replacing the engine couldn't hurt. What size engine do you have in it? Do you know what company makes the engine? SH .28 would make some serious power for just about any truck and its about $180us. It all depends what you want to spend. Chances are if you already blew the stocker twice then you might want to look into getting something new.

Hi Thanx

The original engine is a .27 Engine made by Toki in Japan and Branded PRP Power Racing Production.

It was the piston and sleeve that went twice with no visible damage just no compression/pinch within 3-4 tanks from new. The only thing I can think of is possibly very fine dust getting through the air filter. It was still running rich. No burn marks or anything inside the engine. It has puzzled everyone that has looked at it.

I have been considering

NOVAROSSI, TOP .28 ENGINE with pullstart and SG Shaft $ 250

Fantom ENGINE-.27 '05 Pullstart, Slide Carb, SG Crankshaft $ 200

.26 PICCO OUTLAW ENGINE with slide carb, pullstart $ 160

All great engines, and will directly bolt into your truck. I guess its up to your budget now.

THe SH 28 is also supposed to be a savage killer! You can find it at hobbypeople.net
SH 28

I did a google on the raptor and found this: Raptor

It looks like the stock engine puts out 2.6hp, the 28 puts out 3.5hp.

If the raptor is prone to tranny problems, the larger hp engines may not be a good way to go as they will just make the problems worse. Maybe go for an engine that cranks out around 3hp or so.

Wow, Talk about assholes eh man? Sorry to hear. I'll stay clear from their products.

I feel that I need to point out that the Raptor could be good in the UK if distributed my Schumacher as they do give the guys good backup and fully inspect all cars before distributing. Here in South Africa they come striaght from Power Racing and in my case I agree with you 100%.

Mine is for sale. Great Car if you want to buy mine :)

Raptor 27 engine

Hi!

About the engine issue, the Raptor 27 engine is a Team Infinity engine, its the same engine as the Fantom 27, WASP 28 etc. If the engine wear out to fast, maybe you are running to cold. If you are running to cold, the piston and sleeve will not expand enough, and the engine will wear out to fast. It could also be dust of course, or poor fuel.

Thanx Kunta

Would it wear out within 3-4 tanks of fuel ? I ran it in according to the instruction manual and it doesn't get hot during the run in, I wouldnt call it cold either though.

All the Nitro guys that I have spoken to say that it shouldnt fail after 3-4 tanks with running too cold which was I concern I had previously.

I would just like to point out that they are not supplied to South Africa via Power Racing but via Nanda Model Racing in a Power Racing box which is only supposed to be used in the US and apparently Power Racing in the US does support the US Market. Thank You to Power Racing for Clearing this up for me.
