Hi, y'all! I've been practicing the Slash in my backyard, just doing figure eights with some cones, and I was also searching tips, and I heard people mention pit crews a lot, do I actually need a pit crew to race my Slash? I looked in the rulebook/tips section of the website for the place imma be driving at, and I couldn't find anything on pit crews. If one is necessary, how would I find someone to be my pit crew? None of my friends or family are into RC. A little help?

Most of the racers that I know have no pit crew. If they do it's a member of the family or a friend. Most wrench on their own vehicle.

Someone to change out tyres and a fresh battery would let me take a sip of water or something and get me back out there. Pit crew is a great idea.

Regarding a pit crew: Great help if one is racing electric. Essential in my opinion if one is racing nitro. One is enough. Challenge is getting the same one every time you race. Most events it is an agreement between two racers to help each other pit. This is o.k. for local racing and seems to work for both involved. For serious racing, my recommendation is to build your own dedicated pit crewman (PC=crewperson?). Some one you can count on being there for every event. That will make the difference between winning races and winning series.

My focus these days is electric ST at my backyard track, so a pit crew for me is not necessary. That said, were I ever to enter group racing again it would be as a car owner, mechanic, crew member. I'd find a driver. My experience tells me finding a driver is easier than finding a crew. Sounds backwards, but that's the way I'd do it. There would be requirements of a driver. Driver would have to have skin in the game too. Perhaps contribute the radio and servo(s)? Most drivers want their own radio anyway.

Hope this helps. Go out and enjoy racing. Chances are you'll find another racer at the starting level and the two of you can buddy up. good luck.

Cheers. AC

Well, I'm glad I won't need a crew, I don't know anyone who knows anything about the hobby lol

Although I do love working on the car, it's super fun! I replaced all the stock screws with stainless steel ones, had a blast!

All 4 of my land vehicles got the stainlesses. And you learn so much about your car taking it apart and reassembling it when installing them. Is there a kit that includes the axle type screws for shock top mounts and wheelie mounts? I despise rust..

I'm not sure if there are or what you mean lol, (only hobby-grade car I've ever had is the slash 4x4).

Well, I couldn't change ALL the screws. Many suspension related screws were not included in the "RC Screwz" kit.
hmm, okay. In the set I got at least, I was able to find direct matches to the stock suspension screws, maybe different set? I got the TSM and OBA set.

I think you're getting way ahead of yourself. Have you been to the local track yet to see what the other racers are doing? Do you have all the tools listed in your other thread? Both of those things will get you further than the best pit crew around.

No, I haven't been to the track yet. I'm working on saving up and getting the tools you listed that I don't have. That makes sense, thanks for the help! I was just wondering because I heard about pit crews, and I don't think I could find someone I know to do it, and my parents don't like me talking with strangers :( I was wondering if I should just chuck the whole racing idea.

Just take your car to the track and enjoy yourself. there are going to be worse drivers there I promise. And one thing you will find at the track is more people that have the same interest's as you. when you get there you won't find one stranger just a bunch of friends hanging out and learning from each other. you can worry about building a hot rod when you have the time and money later. I'm damn near 60 and like all others we had to save and cut back to buy what we wanted. and we didn't build our collection in 3 months.

I always take a Wheelman a suspension man electronic specialist a mechanic a Pit Boss and someone to charge batteries along with my shitzu Roxy, the two of us make a pretty damn good team. Now I just need to find a driver;)
