General RC Information
Upgrades:
1.) Surpass Hobby Rocket 4092 1780kv and Castle MM2(I wired the battery plug wrong on the stock speed controller and let out the magic smoke).
2.) AE SR7 45t spur gear to allow for talling gearing to accommodate the lower KV motor since the stock motor mount is very limited in terms of adjustment.
3.) RPM front and rear arms for the AE MT8.
4.) OEM sway bar kit
5.) OEM aluminum shock caps and rear hubs.
6.) OG Kaiju front bumper. I got this to go along with a beetle body I was going to paint like Herby, but the body mounts are not very adjustable and there was no way to mount the body. Still looks cool though!
Best part, all this was right around $500, which includes the price of the car when it was on sale. I won’t include the price of a MM2 ESC in the total cost because there was nothing wrong with the stock one. Id be using it had I not fried it through my own actions. I’d say this is probably the best bang for the buck RC I’ve had.

- Challenges Faced
- Overall the platform is very easy to work on and problems are minimal. Biggest issue is the arms are so flexible, that you will bind and snap CV axles where they pin into the stub axle on bad landings. It subsequently takes out the plastic hub carriers as well when it happens. RPM arms are 2x as thick as stock and have a lot less flex, this appears to fix the problem. Other issue is the motor mount and its lack of adjustment… SR7 spur is a direct drop in replacement and allows you to go up several teeth on the pinion gear for larger motors. I’d also drill out the rear pistons as per RazorRC otherwise you will break the pistons are hard landings. This is an issue on the MT8 as well as it uses the same shocks. Stock tires are actually pretty decent, even without my redneck studs it gets around on the snow and ice pretty good. They’re belted as well, so they don’t balloon. Which for the price point, belted tires out of the box are a big surprise. The aluminum upgrades aren’t necessary, aside from maybe the shock caps. Only reason I got the rear hubs is because rear hubs for a MT8 or Kaiju were out of stock at the time. I really just wanted to see how much I could push what I would consider an entry level 1/8 basher and how it compares to Associated’s offering since it shares a lot of parts.
