I'm so jealous, I'm really liking her new car.

She more than deserves it, she works hard and has to put up with me. 😍

While we where picking it up the salesman showed us a stock Outback going up the jeep trails at Moab, freaking impressive for only being all wheel drive. I would never treat our daily driver like that but it does give you some extra confidence on trails knowing it could. Her new car makes me miss my truck, but it's way more comfortable. :thumbs-up:

Have you seen the video with the WRX pulling a semi in snow? My ex is huge into Subaru's, so everytime she would find a new Subie video, she would make sure I saw it. I was also a Subaru mechanic for more than ten years in central N.Y., and people up there think Subaru is a substitute for a pick up or SUV for off roading, so I've seen a lot of strange things happen to them.

Congrats on the new car. What truck you had? I want to put a subaru boxer motor in a chevy colorado, 2 long and 2 short headers for some rumble. 😁

You know how I love those off-road bling.

I'm down for bling, but she said blue is all the bling she needs

. Ford ranger 4x4, wasn't fancy but it took me every where I wanted to go.

I know some of the older Brats/cars were tough as nails. I have seen many of the cars enter and win the tough truck races at the monster truck shows here.

I have seen a few of both older and newer cars at the 24 hours of lemons, as well as some of the rally races in PA, and some of those cars get hammered mercilessly. As for the older Brat, i had a friend years ago modify 2 of them to use as plow vehicles in small places, and while it looked goofy, it actually worked really well.

Did you intentionally say 24 hours of lemons? Because that is funny as hell.

The 24 hours of lemons is an actual racing event. Here is a video of it:
and this is their website: https://24hoursoflemons.com/ The rules say, the car can't cost you more than $500 to buy, and also has a maximum you can spend on making it driveable, but, the cost of safety equipment isnt included. My favorite driver is Speedy Cop: https://speedycop.com/. He builds some crazy stuff, like an upside down Camaro.

That's just awesome! Man, I would have been so down with that with almost all my cars when I was first living on my own in my late teens. I had an endless stream of sub $500 cars 😉 The 77 Monte Carlo I had got Dukes of Hazzarded over a very steep railroad crossing at 50+ mph. The 78 Cutlass, same thing. The 78 Honda Accord would have been fun. Then there was the 82 Escort wagon. I could keep going into my mediocre collection of past bad experiences, but it gets even more embarassing, and the memories are flooding back and it hurts too much to go further.

If you want to compare bad memories lol, i had a 1978 Datsun B210 wagon when i was living in Iowa years ago. It ran, but that is about all it did right. Luckily, Iowa didnt do inspections back then, because it would have never passed, not without a major overhaul. I also had a Chevy Citation, two Yugo's (remember those), a ratty Chevy Cavalier, and a Chevy Vega that caught on fire from the brakes overheating. I also had 5 Chevy Chevette's, one of which my brother and i tried to stuff a v6 into. The motor fit, but, was so heavy the front end literally sat on the ground after we let the hoist down. I gave up on it at that point.

My cousin had a Chevette. We went to the mall one time in it. All 8 of us. On the way back it developed a loud knock like a rod was just about to let go. He babied it all the way home. Once there, we all piled out and he commenced to doing 1st gear speed runs trying to grenade it. It went back and forth, a block at a time, screaming and clattering the whole way til he and his fan club got bored. He drove it for about 4 months like that before it finally had enough.

Thats why the 5.3s are knock knock joke champions. 🤣

Oh hey @Doom! - if you get enough miles on it to need a catalytic converter replaced, just sell it. My friend's 2012 Outback just went into the shop and they want $1500 to put new ones on. I told her my entire exhaust system on my '90 Mustang with long tube headers didn't cost that much. That's just crazy.
