Hey everyone! I just killed my one car, a 7-year-old ECX Ruckus 1/18. I'm looking at a Redcat Piranha, anyone here have one? How's the handling? Is it durable? Worth the price? Thanks!

Whats your price range? I've been looking at hobao, and they have some very nicely priced sliders and rtrs!Hey everyone! I just killed my one car, a 7-year-old ECX Ruckus 1/18. I'm looking at a Redcat Piranha, anyone here have one? How's the handling? Is it durable? Worth the price? Thanks!
Redcat crawlers are great. I have seen lots of bad comments on their basher stuff in general.Hey everyone! I just killed my one car, a 7-year-old ECX Ruckus 1/18. I'm looking at a Redcat Piranha, anyone here have one? How's the handling? Is it durable? Worth the price? Thanks!
Fixed it for yax2 gives it more meaning
.....or I'm on my phone and am too lazy too figure out how to remove one.
* Insert generic excuse as to why I didn't catch that.*Fixed it for ya![]()
It's a glitch. I have seen it in my posts a few times now. Don't mess with it. Let Woodie see it.* Insert generic excuse as to why I didn't catch that.*
Glad it wasn't the wrong image uploaded!Fixed it for ya
What the hell. It won't delete the second pic.
@WoodiE - this is a glitch I have been seeing for a bit now. In one of my build threads, I was getting one extra image adding to the end of my post. Going in and removing the extra image had it showing right back up after saving the edit. The only way to get it removed was deleting the uploaded image and re-uploading it.
Not a glitch. It's a glitch. I have seen it in my posts a few times now. Don't mess with it. Let Woodie see it.
I don't run them real hard at this point, sometimes I go to the carpet track, or drive around at the skate park.I've never had an issue with Redcat's products. Gen 7 Pro, Valkyrie Truggy and a Wendigo. They've been durable, affordable, and fun. I've never owned a Piranha so I don't know anything about those. Never had to use customer service because like I said, I've never had an issue. Now, more than likely your local hobby shop isn't going to have a plethora of spare parts handy...if any...so be ready for that.
EDIT: I should also state that I am not a die hard RC hobbyist either. I go out and have fun with mine when I can. I don't test the limits of my rigs, I put them through their paces but I don't drive the crap out of them.
I'd like to keep it stock for a while, aside from any issues may find with steering and transmission and whatnot. I mostly run it off-road, hit the skate park, and the occasional local carpet track. I'm looking to get a summer job this year, and with that I'm pretty sure I want to purchase an ARRMA Outcast 4S in a couple of years. I definitely don't bash like Kevin Talbot. He breaks EVERYTHING!Are you looking to bash this or race it? What do you plan to do? Where do you plan to run?
Lots of hop ups of keep stock and run?
Budget is a huge factor here too.
Arrma Gorgon and Fury 223 are pretty good chassis.
Save up for a Slash if you have a couple bucks.
Tekno is a favorite too if your budget is larger.
This kit you picked out isn't super bad but its not great either!![]()
Limit around $200-$250.Whats your price range? I've been looking at hobao, and they have some very nicely priced sliders and rtrs!
Oh yeah, I kept my Ruckus stock for years, then put a brushless motor in it, and a metal pinion gear, but everything else was stock. Probably what turned all the plastic transmission and differential parts into the classic ECX slop.Go down the checklist:
It's not discontinued, is it?
Download the "manual". Can you easily find parts for the platform?
You know it's a RTR outfitted with lower budget electronics?
Don't care if upgrades are not available for the platform?
Just looking at the tranny (looks to be composite) top gear/gear diff parts; no slipper... I would not expect a person to dump a high-power brushless motor onboard. Then again, I don't have firsthand knowledge of the platform and Redcat's OEM composites. It's just that I've never seen a top shaft composite gear in a 1/10 scale RC before.
For being a brushed motor RTR RC, and includes a battery, the price is right. Right for who? If the planets are in alignment, go for it.
I can't believe I'm saying this... Ultimately, if you want a no brainer low budget 2wd stadium truck that you can build upon, I'd save up for a Rustler.
Good luck.
I might have a different opinion if I were more strenuous on them. But for me, jumping, ripping and racing my son and family, they're perfect for what I do. I'm sure when I go visit majin he'll be the ultimate test of their durability.I don't run them real hard at this point, sometimes I go to the carpet track, or drive around at the skate park.
