Hey guys. I am just starting to get into electric after all this time. I recently purchased a used Rustler from a friend and am outfitting it with a Castle Creations Mamba Monster 2200kv motor and ESC combo. I need help selecting a lipo charger, batteries and upgrades, keeping in mind that price is an obstacle. I want the best, fastest and strongest vehicle I can afford to have. Any ideas?

Different people can "afford" different things. Give us an idea on your budget, then we'll know where to point you.

Well I'm sure I'm gonna drop money into it over time, but I'm just making sure my initial investment isn't an arm and a leg plus my first born. I don't want to spend much more than $150 over the next month or so. Just looking to get fast on a budget. ;)

That could easily buy a reasonable charger and a couple of inexpensive LiPo packs.

what is your budget and what is your goal? Unless you're going to do 100+MPH you dont need a MMM and a 2200kv....its retarded overkill for anything else.

That is exactly my goal!:first_place: I just wanna make sure my car is sturdy and I get the proper charger and lipos to accomplish this.

First and foremost you are going to need deeeeeeeeep pockets. As near as I can figure I'm in over $2200 so far between the kit (about $1050 there) and repaires (about $1150ish so far). you're also gonna have to have RPM everything they make for it. You'll need an aftermarket Gear case that can be dremeled out to accommodate the 1/8 scale motor. Most guys use the Integy one, I used one from Hot Racing. Either one should be fine. You'll need a good wheelie bar for the back....not so much for wheelies but to protect your 2200kv when you wreck. Check out tbone wheelie bar. thats a pretty durable and wide wheelie bar...offers good protection. Then you are going to need a set of 17MM hub adapters. You'll need either a full set of GRP tires or Ipanemas. If you go with the Ipanemas get the 41MM tires all the way around. Dont use the 49MM ones in the rear. the 49MMs dont hold up quite as well at high speeds as the 41MMs. Also if you get Ipanemas get a harder shore like 55 or 60 and if you have to use some traction compound on them if the weather is cooler. I'm still trying to determine which tires I like better. Still unsure at this point. You'll need a 6S lipo (at least one....I've lost one 6S lipo and one 4S pack so far from wrecks). You'll need a 34 or 36T revo 3.3 spur and a 34T XO-1 Pinion. You'll need some after market aluminum shocks and TiNi shafts. I use the Traxxas big bores myself. You'll want to look up how to do the wide mod to the front end of the Rusty, Gyro is optional. some people use them some dont. You'll need 1/4g lead weights backed with adhesive tape. I buy mine from a local auto garage. Lets see, I would suggest getting a very high speed servo. something in the .8 sec ballpark. You'll also need an aluminum bulkhead. I relace the stock axles with the heavy duty ones from the 4WD Slash. and if you're pockets are deep enough Id consider buying ceramic bearing for the wheels, transmission and spur gear. Charger doesn't matter to much as long as it can charge 6S lipos although you'll probably want a 200W or higher charger that can charge the 6S pack at 10A or more. You'll also want to get one thats decent quality. I had one of those cheapie chargers go bad on me and puffed 3 or 4 of my lipos before I figured out what was causing it. Thats about all I can think of at the moment. You can take a look at my build [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDVnL7qeHqg"]100+ MPH High Speed Rustler 2.2 - YouTube[/ame] Id also check out builds by some of the other guys that do 100+MPH Rustlers on youtube like JohnracerX, MrMRTMustang, Absoloot1, Draven, and any others you can find. I'm still working on my build but I believe i have identified the problem I'm having....I think the combination of the weight I have and the Downforce wing in the front is to much and when it gets up to speed its putting so much downforce on the front that the back looses traction and skids out of control. Next time I'm going to ditch the downforce wing and try putting some more weight in the center and rear of the kit.

Hope this helps.

Wow, that's quite an ingredient list! But you've given me lots to think about. Thanks a lot. Now I've got to scour the want ads for another job to pay for all this. :\

Listen to greywolf, if anyone on this forum knows Rustlers, its him, 2200kv would be retarted Fast on a Rusty.

Ok, so I've ordered rpm arms for all 4 corners. I want to get the slash axels but I've got to wait a week or so ( -$'s) on those. I'm thinking of going with the GPR foam tires. Question for you Greywolf, I ordered t-bone racing front & rear bumpers for added protection. Will this slow me down much?

The Tbone in the rear is a good idea but what I did in the front was use the RPM bumper only mounted upside down....not only can the RPM bumper take hellacious punishment but with it mounted upside down the front of it sticks almost straight out instead of being angled up at something like a 45 degree angle. I did this in the hopes that it would make the car a little more aerodynamic. With it tilted up it gives it a pretty wide surface for the air to push against. I'm not sure if you can do the same thing with the tbone front bumper or not.

Going with Jaco foams on the edges. I might try your ^^^ RPM upside down bumper trick if I'm not happy with the T-bone front I ordered. What do you suggest as far as gearing?

Dont use Jaco foams in the rear they will blow apart under high speeds. You can use them in the front but I prefer the GRPs or the Ipanemas as they add some weight to the car which it desperately needs.

I'm thinking of changing out the shocks on the Rusty. I've seen some guys go with the Traxxas big bore shocks. Do these come with progressive rate springs?

I will keep that in mind. The Jacos haven't come in just yet.

"This is an optional ST Racing Concepts 17mm Hex Hub Conversion Kit, and is intended for use with the Traxxas Slash, Stampede, Rustler and Bandit vehicles."
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say, yes.

Yeah, I saw that seconds after I posted this. I feel short bus special right now. :\
