I’m not big on introductions so a little about myself. I’m from VA and have been interested in getting into RC with my almost 10 y/o son. We have a farm and spend a lot of time outdoors. I’m trying to decide what exactly to get the both of us and have steered toward the Crawler route. I’m looking for some pointers and the best bang for the buck out of the box for he and I both. I like the TRX-4 but am also interested in a few other models from Element and Axial. Thanks in advance. This will be a Christmas gift for him so I’m in a bit of a time crunch.

Cannot go wrong with the TRX4 from what I have seen on here. @Doom! Has the Element so maybe he can give ya some info and thoughts on it. There is also a Crawl Chronicles thread in the Crawler forum that @Xraycer started that will give you lots of inspiration. Lots of cool rigs in that thread.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck!

Thanks a lot for the info. I like the Element Trailrunner a lot as well. I’ll check those threads out.

Welcome aboard! I bought the Element Sendero HD and liked it so much I bought the Element 4runner, and I liked that so much I bought the Element Ecto. I really mean to try some other brands but have been very happy with the Element so far. They are also priced better than most of the competition and still have plenty of aftermarket support. :thumbs-up:

I don't have any Element rigs, so I can't speak for this brand. I do have a TRX4, SCX10iii, and Redcat Gen8V2. I love them all!
The rtr TRX4 is absolutely the best right out of the box with no mods or upgrades, if you get the Sport model. With the low profile, lightweight body, you don't even need to add additional weight down low to lower the center of gravity. The stock Canyon Trail tires are fantastic crawling tires, so no need to upgrade these to expensive tires like Proline. Just charge up the battery and go crawl. Also, the 2 speed function is fast enough, for when you want to get a little ramp time! I highly recommend the Sport model if you're looking to just get up and go!
Another recommendation I would like to make is the 1/18 FMS Atlas 6X6 Power Wagon. I just got one this weekend and I think it is freaking awesome! Looks super cool and a fantastic crawler right out of the box. The price ($150 Amazon) is also right, to see if crawling is right for your son. Heck, at that price you could 2, since crawling is that much more fun with multiple vehicles!
