For whatever reason, this truck got me digging into it to find out more. There are some very interesting things about this truck that should be a trend others start following.
Looking at the info on Redcat's site, they really put a lot of thought into this one. That chassis is freaking gorgeous
The axles look nice and beefy with steel liners, and the steering angles are great (with it's adjustable ackerman). Everything looks like it's already been upgraded, compared to other RTR RC's we've seen.
They designed into this beast 3 different mounting locations for batteries. Well two really, because the two side mounts you'd probably want to run a parallel pack setup using two smaller batteries. And they have actually added an extra channel to the radio with the... "ability to adjust the endpoints on all channels"... on a RTR! That's unheard of.
We're always complaining about RTR electronics with Horizon, Traxxas, and everyone else really sticking it to us in that department. Redcat definitely isn't following the program here. They left room for upgrades, but they didn't leave ya wanting for much as far as the electronics go. If I were to upgrade anything here, I'd VERY happily keep these stock electronics to use to upgrade 1/8 RTR vehicles, as opposed to wanting to toss them in the garbage.
You paying attention Horizon?????
The steering servo must be a new model, so no other specs available yet except the
MASSIVE 70KG TORQUE. It looks like the model "LS" is a new designation in Redcat's lineup for "large scale". They should have used BM for Beast Mode
The motor/ESC must be a RTR spinoff of the brand new Hobbywing Fusion 8ight, which is their new 8th scale Fusion motor/ESC combo. No actual specs on this version Redcat is using, but if it is the same ESC as in the Fusion 8ight, it has a 13A
BEC and 6v/7.4v/8.4v output.
- HX-LS Servo - 70kg torque (thats 972 oz/in folks!!!)
- HX-M4K - 4kg metal gear Micro servo handles the shifting duties
- Hobbywing Fusion 4269 1800kv motor/ESC
Horizon and Traxxas can't even put a metal geared servo on the steering duties of most of their bashers. And Redcat puts one in for shifting gears?
More than any Axial, or even a Vanquish RTR, this truck really makes me wish we had a place to crawl here, because I think this truck looks pretty darned BADASS. And we wants it!
It's something different because it comes with not just decent electronics, but really decent electronics. Kinda like some of the small scale RTR crawlers being sold with Furitek electronics and TORQ servos, but in large scale. RTR RC manufacturers better be paying attention to Redcat! I think they knocked this one out of the damn park.
