I've been wanting to try something differant other than land vehicles and i was stuck between boats and planes. so today i chose flying. i went to my lhs i asked them wat would be a good plane for beginners and after a 5 minut flight on the simulator he pointed me to the hobby zone super cub lp. tommorow i am most likely going to a fliers training thingy so i can fly being guided by someone. but my real reason for posting here is to ask wat do you guys think of this plane? is it a good beginer plane? and wat should i look forward to moving upto in the future?... thank you in advance

Hobbyzone makes some great planes. However, if you had asked earlier, I would have recommended something with tricycle landing gear, like an Avastar, to learn on. Landings with a tail dragger are a bit trickier since there's no nose wheel to save your prop if you over use the elevator on the runway. It's a great plane to fly, though. Piper cubs, in any scale including full size, are meant to be easy to handle.

Good luck, and most of all, have fun!

i believe i was pointed to this plane because it has a flight stabilizing thingy (i can't remember the name) its got a sencor on the top and a sensor on the bottom so it will stabalize the plane if it nose dives or spirals. and also limits the amount of controll you have so you can't oversteer it. (or watever the technical term for flying harshly is) this can also be turned off for more advanced flight. lets hope i dont crash

It could be a gyro, or the more advanced version is a "copilot" that will level the plane or heli within one second of letting go of the sticks. That's a good feature when you're learning.

its a strong plane from wat I've seen a guy on youtube flew it stright into a tree then fell about 15 feet. only damage was a dent in the nose cover, and a small chip out of the wing.

Would he be talking about "washout" being build into the wing?

Should be a stable plane. And ya got the right idea flying on a buddy cord.

HobbyZone’s exclusive Anti-Crash Technology (ACT™) ensures your first flights are smooth and stable by using special optical sensors and software that analyze your flight path. If ACT “sees” you are losing control and entering a steep dive, it reacts quickly to help prevent a crash by actually helping you regain control. After you’ve mastered the basics, you can flip the switch on the transmitter, even while in flight, and turn Anti-Crash Technology off. With ACT off, your Super Cub LP will be capable of more advanced maneuvers such as steep turns and loops. - right from the site

Haven't seen that before.

The cub is a good flier. Never saw that one fly. But you have a slow, high-wing aircraft.
You are getting someone to help.
Probably flying on a nice grass field.

Small plane though, right? Ya don't want to fly it when it's real windy. Your instructor will know.

As for your next plane... What are you interested in? Want a ARF or do ya want to build it?
Don't get something real fast. Just something you will enjoy.

Go to Tower's site and request a catalog. It will take months of mouth watering before you make a decision.
Planes that were once only in kit form are now ARF.

i just want to get out there and fly lol i can't fly it in my yard so i gotta head down to fort ontario sometime mabe today or tommorow, the plane is at the moment hanging from the ceiling behind my head.

I think that sux, too.
Nobody is into building anymore.

Had one guy at the field that would build from plans. (Some sweet planes!)
Maybe 3 that would build a kit?
The rest were buying ARF's.

One guy will talk about his like he spent a lot of time on it. Almost to the point ya think he cut out all the parts...
Had trouble with this or that. Changed something.
Never put anything together but a ARF.

I agree, digger. There's not much you can say to someone who only put an engine and servos in a plane and took off.
Building a kit or building from plans is the greatest feeling there is, when it leaves the ground for the first time.
I've even built planes for other people that wanted that particular model, but couldn't get it ARF. I totally enjoyed building it, and if it eventually got wrecked, I think I felt worse than THEY did.
There's nothing I like more than seeing a wing take shape on a blueprint loaded with T-pins.

Amen Bro.
Don't forget gluing the fingers together and the x-acto knife rolling off the table and sticking you in the leg.
Doesn't get any better than that. :D

Serious though. Have had some good times building aircraft.

well now its in a tree...i shouldnt have flown because of the wind i got it up good and the wind took it, i couldnt get it down and.....treed

Didn't you read the part that said, "Don't fly in windy conditions"?

Amen Bro.

LMFAO!!
Let's not forget glue on your best jeans. Without fail!

LOL I've actually stabbed myself in the calf trying to catch an x-acto roling of the table. :D

yes, i did read that part but it wasn't to bad when i started, then it picked up and as soon as i hit the tree....it was nothing but in the efort of getting it down i snaped the wing in half (in 3 differant spots) killed the nosecone, firewall, and most likely gonna need a new fusalage....only thing keepable is the electronics and the tail section

Wow, that's some serious damage. You need to find a club where you can fly in a clear area with experienced fliers to help you out.
