Good morning to all-
Well, Fellers, it has been drier than a covered bridge here on the Gulf Coast, and we are finally getting some badly needed rain, so I can't complain about not having much flying time.
So, the rain coming this morning but not quite here, I took myself and my little UMX Viper- the 30 mm little one- down to the flying field and sent her up. Now, I have come to value this little EDF plane a great deal- I fly it a lot. It is not nearly as aerobatic as my biplanes, but it goes like a skinny cat and it rolls like a cheap kayak in a white water rapid. And those LED nav lights- on a dark morning such as this, they show up for a looonnngg way- nice to see and help establish position.
I flew her until the low battery warning beeps starting coming on the controller, so I set up for a landing- a crosswind landing, which I don't love, but that's what I had to work with. I had her on downwind and going into final when a large flock of cattle egrets- nice, attractive but not terribly bright birds- flew right in front of the plane. I managed to wade through the flock of egrets, made a go-around and came back in. This little EDF plane needs a long landing run, it does. I came in straight, touched her down and she rolled and rolled and stopped right next to my truck on the side of the road-landing strip. Nice landing, if I do say so myself.
And that's when the first raindrops started falling.
It can rain all day now- I've had my satisfaction for the day.
you all be safe and keep well- Ed
