what are you stuffing it into and are you wanting quality sound or are you just trying to impress people when they look into your car?

I'm with ian. the boxes look good, but wont sound very good. plus there pretty small for an average sub. if your looking for "wow look at those subs" the yea go for it but if your looking for "wow LISTEN to that system" then find something else.

Alphasoniks are actually pretty good. VERY expensive though. But yeah, Id get a box built. NEVER buy a speaker that comes in a box. Never buy any subwoofer that has built in tweeters in the box, and never buy pre fab box's unless there built EXACTLY for your speaker. Also your better off with a AWESOME amp and some lower grade speakers than awesome speakers and a lower grade amp. A good amp will make or break your system.

So will a small power cable... I found that out the hard way. My amp would over heat for no reason and I couldn't figure out why... the main power cable was too light. I don't even remember what I had, but I had 2 kicker 15's mounted isoberic in a 3/4" birch plywood box that I built. The amp was a 1000 watt something...

My dad was a welder for 30 years... he had some extra welding cables laying around that he wasn't using anymore. Welding cable is large and very plyable, so it worked really well for a main power lead. Needless to say, I blew my windshield out of my hyundai... It was awesome! But man, was my dad ticked! I had no idea it would get that loud. All due to the fact that the amp never got enough power to it.

That was 12 years ago... do they still even make Kicker competition subs?

Just food for thought.

well that is a $410 box set, but I'm getting it through a great friend for $150 so i can't let it go...

Yeah Kicker has the L7 which is there solobaric line. Awesome subs!!

In my truck I had 2 guage Stinger wire that I was using to power 2-Memphis 1000d amps. Worked pretty good but I wish I would have got the 0 guage. Only prob is trying to hide a 0 guage wire

I like sound and all, but no one keeps in mind that even though they sound cool, they vibrate the nuts and bolts that hold your car together and in the end, if not tighened, will fall out. Very cool but I'd lose the stock box as everyone's said.

Thats a old wise tale. If BASS is gonna loosen the nuts and bolts on your car, your car has other issues. But dont go eating pop rocks and drink pepsi. Cuz you WILL die..hehe

sealed means its not a ported box. Ported box's have a hole with a pipe into the box to let the excess air/sound out. Ported are louder boxes but take alot more space. Sealed is usually used it tight spots because they can put foam/insulation in the box to make the box seem bigger (Dont ask me how that works..lol)But yeah, in a sealed or ported box ya can still take the speakers out. If thats the set up your getting for $150 thats not bad at all. See how they sound, if it sucks, then ya can always build another box.

i think those are decent subs, especially for the money, but that box is going to have an annoying peak at around 50 hz. most band passes do. they always seem to end up tuned to that frequency. you might consider pulling them out and having a sealed or ported box designed for them. the frequency response will be much smoother and the sound quality will be 10 times better. i can get you a good box design if you get me the specs on the subs 'cause i'm real good friends with wilson and bo adcock from expressive audio. they let me mooch their enclosure design software all the time. those are the guys that built the reaper and the reaper 2 that took the iasca and usac finals a few years in a row. best friends you could have if you're into car audio.

In a tight spot that I had in my pick up a while back, I used Bazooka self powered bass tubes. (2 of them, 10 inch).
There subs with lots of thud.
If your going with "sealed" (aka total inclosure), you can replace the speakers, they have to be total inclosure speakers.

Back in the day...lol I ran (2) 6"bazooka tubes behind the seats of my F150.
They were powered by an Alpine 120w amp, with crossover and an Alpine passive EQ. I had a nice set of Alpine mids & tweets installed in the doors. The deck was a middle of the line Kenwood with all the goodies.. The system sounded absolutely incredible, and cost me half the price of what the car audio shops were trying to sell me. For the music I was listening to, I was looking for more of a tight PUNCH, rather than a dull THUD for bass. THe good ol days...

A sealed box will require more amp power to play as loud as an equivalent ported box. Take that into consideration when choosing your amplifier.

I'm getting it from a guy that owns a speaker shop bout 15 min. away from me, and it comes with an amp, so i guess he put the right one with it.

So what you do issss ,Buy the setup that your determined to get, then take the sub's outta the box, sell the box, amp, and other usless crap to it,then buy a nice amp maybe a fosgate, ppi, soundstream, alpine no audiobahn. Then have somebody build a box setup for what you need,Sealed's probablly the way to go,beings that the box your looking at is the same box i was going to stuff underneath in my computer system,Box won't sound right, bass won't hit right, and it will look retarded if it's that small.Have somebody make a sealed plexiglass box if you have the money, then fit it will led lighthing and graphics.
