looking to start rc racing and would like to start with a rtr electric buggy. looking at the kyosho mp9 evo2 and the serpent xr8. opinions or thoughts on these 2 or recommendations.

Look at parts. If you dont have parts locally, you will need to shop for cheapest prices and pay shipping. Parts local are better, but some of my cars have to be purchased online. Plentiful parts are great. If they are low stock, it may cost more upfront to have your own inventory to pull from while you wait on the replacement to come in or get back instock.

Another thing is to check the track. It should tell where the brands and model stand, although some drivers are better then others. The track will also have rules on electronics.

I heard good about both brands but neer owned neither.

Thanks looking forward to learning a lot. any other opinions on car choice question from above?

i certainly understand going the kit route but lets just say for kicks and giggles to go the rtr route for now what would be your choices in an e buggy?

The Kyosho is surely a badass RC, but I have no experience with the MP9's. The only thing about Kyosho is for the last year, they have had some major supply problems. They just got bought by a toy company last year, who's mission statement said they wanted to work out the supply problems, but instead, they keep releasing these stupid new toy vids on YouTube.

If it were me, I would look at Losi. Parts, upgrades, etc should be readily available for them.

Well, me personally, like mentioned above, I would prefer a kit. The actual kit assembly teaches you more about your RC than any RTR will unless you actually completely tear the RTR down and rebuild it. And let's face it, you will be tearing a RTR down to fix things.

If it is just that you have no experience building one, trust me, there is help here. I have given my phone number to a few people here so they could call me to help them build their RC.

If it is cost, then I would probably just grab the Kyosho after searching for replacement parts.

Another thing I would suggest is go to the track you plan to race at and see what people are using there. Tekno is another great one, but again, it's a kit.

What is your budget?

how about a e rtr, not nitro.

Thanks for all the help and excuse the dumb questions

The Arrma Typhon TLR tuned would be the e-option from Horizon/Losi. You can convert an 8ight to electric quite easily too.

Go for the Serpent if you like it. One thing I will say is in the RC hobby whenever I make decisions purely on price it often ends up costing me more.

First thing is would do is go to the track and check out the classes they run and how many people are in that class. Sucks to build a rig and race one other person or have no race because you are the only one with that type of rig.

With a race car used is not the worst idea. Racers tend to sink a ton of money into a rig and then move to a faster class.

Buy the best. It brakes less . You can tune it better and win the race.

Stock class it also a great option to keep from breaking the bank when you are just getting started. Don’t forget the race car need support equipment.

I'm partial to associated and Losi but the tekno 1/8 scale is pretty bad ass if you want to build. There are a few people here that have serpent truggies, they like them but can't speak for their buggies.

Hi
I've got a 1/10 Serpent buggy for my son and local track practices and we finally sold it; it's a good RTR out of a box but it's hard to find pieces.
