I checked out your suggestion from fms and it looks pretty cool for being a full package set up at a great price. My only concern is how durable it would be before it might break?

It's a solid truck, I have converted mine to brushless, with different hexes wheels and tires. I have broken a front bearing carrier. It did go into a fence post to make that happen....a replacement pair r/l is like 12 bucks with shipping. You can see it in its current form here.

Thanks for the video, that was interesting. It is a very attractive possibility for me, I'm still trying to study up on the subject to be more confident. I used to fly RC planes with my dad, he is now long passed away 2007, and we used to build the planes in the winter time and fly them in the good weather of spring summer and fall. A lot of Technology involved in that hobby with servos, engines, and everything else, and this discipline is probably not a whole lot different. I did learn that a 2s battery as opposed to a 3s is about the voltage level, as the two or three mean the number of batteries in series. The more I understand that, I believe a 2s would be the way to go to start out.

The s is for series. 2 cells in series and so on. 2s will give you a longer run time then 3s with the same mah rating. As you can see from the video, 2s can be a really good time. You will also generate less heat.

The less heat aspect seems to be an important consideration in rc cars. On grass it sounds important based on what has been mentioned in here.

Heat and electronics is usually bad. The harder you ask it to work the more heat it will generate. Running on grass is harder than other surfaces.
The monster truck is a good design. The wheels are big, but light. Easy to roll with sealed bearings. 2wd is less driven parts and so on. I never had a problem with heat with the stock motor esc setup, just wanted mo powah!!! Lol

Ok, and because of all the help I have gotten in this thread, I am thinking a different direction in my first rc purchase would make more sense. Could someone create a link to amozon for a rtr fms model to possibly get? Instead of getting a premium rc to start with, the fms seems more fitting.

With the advice of some folks in here, I purchased the fms rtr ford. It looks like a good starting point for me, a beginner, and it doesn't break the bank . It seems like it gets pretty good reviews and should be a lot of fun in the backyard , and other places. Maybe a few suggested mods from owners of this model would be helpful? Thank you !

Congrats! I expect it will be a blast for you. I would just drive it for now, save mods for after you have some run time. Just enjoy it for what it is at first.

Good advice! I suspect I will be more gentle on its usage as some folks are , I'm not really into speed or big jumps right now. I just want to buzz around the backyard, get used to it, and have some fun. I guess I am a 70 year old man , but the little kid is coming out to play .

I drove mine completely stock for a while. I expect you could leave it that way and enjoy it for a long time having gone with the brushless edition.

My favorite and most reliable recent monster truck purchase is a totally stock (except servo now) brushed Gorgon. Its a budget truck just like yours
I run it on 2s and its a blast! The lower speed makes its handling seem even more realistic to me.

I am sure you'll love your new truck too!!!

That's funny , cuz I just recorded the Twilight Zone and have over 100 episodes recorded. I'll have to check through them to see if I can find what you were talking about . What would really be eerie is that I watch that show and see my person on that particular episode racing my rc around my backyard? lol. I look forward to getting the truck and putting it through its paces. It's scheduled to arrive this coming Tuesday , at least according to the shop app.

I grew up on that show! I remember sitting in my bedroom with my b/w with rabbit ears tuning in at like 10:30 pm LOL
